97 maxima vehicle speed sensor
97 maxima vehicle speed sensor
Has anyone ever changed the speed sensor on a 5spd and the speed doesn't work right away? I changed my speed sensor because I had a code for it and the sensor would work but not right away so I got a new one from autozone and it seems like its the same.
Just warmed up the car and drove and the speed meter was working. Parked the car and turned it off for a few minutes then went for a drive again then wasn't working but after a few minutes it was working.
Thats the only thing I can think of since it seems to work after driving for a bit. It leads me to believe that maybe wires are moving around causing it to start working. Member DennisMik is great with electrical stuff and could probably help you. Shoot him a PM if you don't make any progress.
We have the same problem! I changed my VSS even though I didn't have the code hoping it would fix the problem but it didn't....Sometimes the speedometer works & sometimes it doesn't...I think the odometer too
Ok here is the dix that worked for me i took out the speedo head removed all the philips screws cleaned all the contacts under the screws with a nail file on both the speedo head and the flex circuit and i have not had the problem return i had a internintant 500 code flashing light 13x on startup and no cruise control and now it works btw evil the 500 code will cause you to fail inspect/emissions just so you know

I'm leaning toward this now too. Find someone on the ORG or a junkyard who has a cluster and swap the whole thing out. If the VSS is not the issue, really the only other thing is the gauge cluster itself.
