i need help guys, i knows its the wrong forum, replacing my rear 6x9's
Alright, first I send my sincerest apolgoies for putting this in the wrong forum, I understand that there is an Audio & Electronics forum but I've noticed that not many 4th generation maxima owning people are involved as compared to 3rd and 5th.
I have a '96 GXE and I have to replace my rear 6x9's as they are blown and unplugged... I bought the new Alpine SilkDome's and they are supposed to be intense, only problem is I can't figure out how to switch these puppies. Anyone with experience please help me out, send a link, send something.... Give me some instructions just don't tell me "just pop the covers off and unscrew the sh*t" because that's not happening. Thanks guys

what do you think?
From myt understanding the 1995-1999 Maxima's rear speaker size is:
6 3/4 Round size,, jus like the same size on the front door speakers) .
The way to take out the rear speakers you are gonna have to hop in your back seat and pop out the rear speaker panel where the speaker covers are at. You cannot go from the trunk and take the speakers out there. I dunno,, b/c I have not replaced my rear speakers yet,, but you might have to take out the rear seat to possibablyy unsnap the rear speaker floof panel.
I am needin speakers soon for the rear of my 98 Max and I can post once I get to mine.
Good Luck

bdogg88,
There not 6x9's I already checked. they are 6 3/4 (round speakers and not oval like 6x9's) I am sure you can put the 6x9s in,, but you are going to need to get an adapter.
Now to get the speakers out.. thats easy. you have the take the rear speaker pannel off and I say prob the full panel itself on the back/rear window. I know on my very old Chevy Bretta I had to remove the rear seat out to pop out the rear pannel take the screws out of the speakers. Now for the 6x9s you are gonna have to make new holes on the metal innerside of the pannel to mount them puppies.
I perfer you to just get tyhe 6 3/4,, makes a less headace. if you wnat bumps... put in a RCA converter and run a sub and amp.
6x9??? what trim level do u have??? SE or sumthing?? - cause i got the GXE and they look like 6.5's.....same thing with the front speakers.....they are 6.5's.......according to crutchfield...... maxima dont come with 6x9......
All: The BOSE in my '99 is a Clarion CD/Tape/radio that says BOSE on the tape deck door and Clarion on the label on top, with BOSE speakers and amps. The non-BOSE I'm pretty sure is all Panasonic. I replaced my rear speakers (6 1/2" ROUND, NOT 6X9!!) by unbolting and removing the back seat, then lifting up the carpeted parcel shelf. The speaks were screwed in from the top.
My nephew's '92 Max has rear speakers that screw in from the bottom, so you gotta crawl into the trunk and work upside down.
Hope that helps.

If you have the Bose system, speakers are from Bose.
Non-Bose system uses Panasonic speakers.
Okay the first thing I did when I bought my car was replace the stereo. You WILL have to take the rear seat out. To do this, search around the bottom front of the seat for two loops (one on each side). Pull these loops to unlatch the seat and pull the seat upwards and out of the car. You will then see the four bolts holding the upper seat back to the frame. Two of them are behind the armrest/skihole. Unbolt all four of those. When the top part of the seat is out of the car you will have to do one more thing. That is to pop up the rear deck. It is held in by plastic clips. Get a screwdriver and pry up on the clips until the deck comes out. Be careful because there are latches on either side that will catch the deck as you pull. After that is taken out, you can access the speakers. Just unscrew them and pull them out. This whole process can take me about 10 mins. now, but took me about 30 when I first did it. Good luck!
