Rear end movement

My 98 GLE is running like a dream. Excellent commuter around town and fun to drive. I've been driving it for 3 months now and enjoying it tremendously.

Don't know if it's just my Maxima or not, but at highway speeds, especially when there is a head wind, the rear end seems to have some excessive (bouncy) lateral movement. Stationary, I can push perpendicular against either rear quarter panel and simulate this loose feeling. Front end is solid. I did installed new quickstruts on all corners including LCA's, end links, and tie rods ends.

I've read a few posts in regards to adding a rear stabilizer bar to add some stability in cornering dynamics. Don't know if this would have a positive effect on rear end. But again, in city driving, the movement is barely noticeable. Alignment is spot on currently. I'm just wondering if there was a way to beef up the wiggling tail. Anyone have suggestions?

I say get a RSB and then wonder why you waited so long.

Check tire pressure?
Are the same tires on the front and read?
Anything loose on the rear suspension? Bushings etc?

The rear should be solid, the only thing you should see squirm are the tires side walls.

THIS. The GLE has a smaller stock sway bar than the SE, and I put an RSB on my SE (one of the first large mods, actually very simple) and body roll is eliminated.

Does teh car lean excessively when you take corners at speed? RSB will solve that.

These are all good things to check and be aware of as well. But since you said you've got basiclaly all new suspension at all 4 corners...I'd lean towards looking at an RSB...Progress and ADDCO are two of the popular ones for our 4th gens...but if you get ADDCO be careful as the U-bolts on my addco were too long, and not threaded as far up as they needed to be (so I used washers until I got a new U bolt set) Stillen used to make them for our cars, not sure if they still do.

But you're only looking at 100 or 150 for either progress or addco RSB. Which is a very great price for such a handling difference.

What about the rear beam link and trailing arm bushings? It's funny not a single person mentioned it. http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...gs-review.html

^^what he said

It's a stock car with a problem.. he doesn't NEED a sway bar to fix it, he needs to fix the problem and maybe then get a sway bar. It isn't body roll he'a experiencing it's sode to side lateral movement due to, most likely, bad bushings

You should buy coilovers, rear sway bar, rear strut bar, es bushings, pan hard bar, etc.

My car is doing this since I got 17x8 wheels... Is it a bushing or what?
