okay im getting a complete MEVI, and im wondering if im running on my stock ECU the rpm cutoff is at 6550 and the optimal setting for the rpm switch is a 5200 what are the gains? would i need to tune my car? flash my ecu? if my cutoff is at 6550 should i lower the rpm switch as well?OH! and how much would a used on go for?...in the mean time ill go check the all motor section.

Might as well get an 00VI, better availability, better gains.

Also, RPM crossover point is vehicle dependent. You'd need a few dyno runs to find the optimal point, sooner isn't always better.

Should look something like this.

I wouldn't set the RPM switch any sooner.

The MEVI with the stock rev limiter is basically all show and no go. My car ran the same times after I installed mine. The engine pulls much harder up top, but loses some down low. It basically moves the power band up. It was fun on the highway that's for sure. $200 is cheap for a complete setup.

However, with a JWT ECU, you will see/feel a major difference. Depending on your driving style, the MEVI alone may not be worth doing.

As far as getting the 00vi, its much more involved to install. The MEVI is a direct replacement and only takes a few hours. The 00vi, depending on which way you go with it, could take a weekend or more. Pricing on the 00vi is all over. You could probably get the complete intake (upper/lower/fuel rail/TB) for $250-300. Then get the rear valve cover and you'd be up and running.

JSutter pretty much summed it up nicely.

Jsutter gave good advice.

You want the RMP switchover to be at the point where the MEVI open and MEVI closed curves cross, if you were to dyno them separately. Failing that, 5200-5400 is where most people ended up setting it.

it will lose you quite a bit of torque down low and in the mid range. up top is the only place it gains you anything.

It's easier for most to keep their engine. I agree it's a better deal buying a motor complete. That's what I did, well I parted out a whole car. I used all the 5th gen parts i wanted since everything was right there. I chose to keep my engine because I know it's history. Sure used engines come with a warrantee but who knows how the previous owner treated it.
