Hello,
I have a 98 Maxima and the little push button A/C button no longer turns on the A/C. The A/C does come on when you hit the defroster buton and blows cold, but out of the defroster vents. I have two questions.
1, Can I replace this push button with some kind of generic toggle switch in the dash?
2, If so, whats the best way to get into that area and remove the heat/AC control unit?

I will assume that you do not have the auto climate control system. In the manual controls, all those buttons go into a printed circuit board. If you repair printed circuit boards, you know what kind of a task that is.

I think it would be easier to get the control panel from a junkyard and install it. I paid $20 for mine and it was not a pick & pull junkyard. Pick & pull are usually less.

To take the control unit out, you take the radio out and the control unit is mounted in the frame with the radio. Do a search for radio removal or remove the radio or something like that.
