Auto Climate Control Module compatibility
Auto Climate Control Module compatibility
I was at a u-pick salvage yard yesterday and found a 1999 Nissan Maxima. Someone destroyed the climate control module getting the radio out. I did notice the "ambient temp" button on the face plate, something I think my year didn't offer. So, now I want to find one but need to know if it's a direct swap for my 1998. Thanks
How about compatibility from an Infiniti I30? The one I found has a wood grain finish but I'm unsure if the finish is the same as my center dash face plate? Anyone know? This is my center face plate:

Plug and play direct swap between years 97-99 i30 and maxima.. 95-96 were slightly different

Amerikaner is correct. The 95 - 97 use one version and the 98 & 99 are another version. You can tell by looking at the buttons below the screen. In the very canter of the 95 - 97 panel there is a blank space between the recirculate button and the temperature down button. On the 98 & 99 panels, this space is no longer blank, it has an AMB button (ambient temperature).
You can physically swap the two different units and plug the wires in, but electrically the two units are incompatible. For example, the later unit has the ambient sensor coming in on pin 2. On the older version, pin 2 is power the the intake door motor. This is just one of many differences.

See page 61 and mark it accordingly.

I don't want to chance it and the faceplate finish be different than the existing woodgrain. Wouldn't look OEM. The unit I was interested in was from an online used part vendor. Would like to get one from a 99 Max but people are out of their minds asking over 100 bills for one. Anything under $50 is respectable. WHen I have a few minutes in the next week, I may just dowel rod it up as mentioned in one of the "How To's".

But to answer your question, most parts are swappable. Climate control is different, so no.
