Tensioner Bolt Thread

Changed out my tensioner pulley assembly and belt and find the upper bracket bolt ( the top one near the long adjustment bolt ) wont thread secure. The bottom 2 are fine. These are the 3 that hold the assembly on the block.

Seems like the intake thread of the block is stripped somewhat as the bolt is clean as a whistle but can be threaded in or out with just fingers. What would cause it to strip internally like that and how do i fix it simply? thanks.

It sounds like somebody over torqued the bolt and stripped the threads in the engine. Easy to do in aluminum engines. Fixing it isn't so easy.

You can use a Heli Coil but that requires you drill the hole a little larger. A Heli Coil kit is around $30 depending on the size of the bolt. Sears, Walmart, auto parts stores sell them.
