1995 Maxima Auto - Shift suddenly "stiff" to move into Drive.

I did look cause I think I remember a post, but I can't find it.

About a week ago, the shifter got "stiff" going into Drive. Like something is binding. It's fine going back into Neutral, Reverse and Park (even between those three).

So I'm wondering what might be wrong.

Next does anyone know of a write up on disassembling the center console?

Thanks all!

its easy dude, you just need a regular flathead screwdriver and you just pop the top section out first. and then the middle pops up and you may just need to clean the linkage to your shift lock celenoid. its a little tan box that releases the shifter after you depress the brake. or it might be time to replace it. same thing happened to me twice, both times i spilled a sticky drink into my center shifter and it started sticking and i cleaned it out the second time and its been fine. you may want to find out what to spray in there to clean, and you going to want to re-spray the linkage after thats done with some very light lubricant. ask a tech or call the dealer and ask what you should use. btw, the dealer around here cleans and repairs that for around 40.00.

Yea just get in there and clean the shift lock celenoid. Mine also kept getting stuck one day, probably all the spilled drinks.

Hopefully someone else can help.

I sold my Maxima before I got a chance to look into my rarely happening problem.

well, depends on how old the car is and the miles. plus, have you ever spilled any drinks on the shifter face? if so, that's easily cleanable with some cleaner and a rag. you basically have to take center dash pieces off to expose shift solenoid and clean the wire to the shifter. took me 40 minutes after watching a video on you tube.
