Horrific idle!

I replaced my rear valve cover gasket as well as all the spark plugs.

When I put everything back together and cranked the car it idles insanely bad. When I press the throttle it revs smoothly but returns back to this awful idle.

I don't understand what could be wrong as the car was running perfectly fine before I took everything apart.

Please help!

You have a vacuum leak now. Check all the lines you disconnected including the PCV. If you removed the throttle body from the intake, did you replace the gasket?

This may be unrelated but after replacing both valve covers and the intake plenum gasket my engine was running rough. I proceeded to add motor oil while the engine was running and it smoothed out.

My thought was that because I had left the rear cover and plenum off overnight and thoroughly cleaned them both that the added oil helped to re-lubricate them.

Like I said, it may be totally unrelated and I could have been low on oil anyways but I can say for sure this is what smoothed out my roughness after the repairs.

before you do anything check the 2 small vacuum lines 1 goes to the tb on the bottom ( also some tb have 2 inlets tubes if your do make sure that one is connected & the other is plug) & the other goes to the intake manifold if they come off that may be your problem

Describe what you feel Horific applies to?

Missing, hunting, to high, to low?

Kind of difficult to trouble shoot on the word Horific over the Internet...

Check the connection again, no rev above 2200 rpm is usually a maf prob.
