Just had a quick question if anyone has been able to run the emanage software on a Windows 7 or 8 (x64) machine. I know it was written for 32 bit machine but all I have 64bit and don't want to really bother in purchasing an old XP machine.

I have a laptop which previously had Windows 7 and now has Windows 8 Pro that I got for free through work. I noticed there is an option to run applications in older versions of Windows simply by clicking on the desktop icon;

Right click>Properties>Compatibility tab> checking the box 'Compatibility mode' will give you a drop down menu of which version of Windows you want to run that program (and it goes back as far as 95 LOL)

Seems with these options it should work but it's not perfect. Just curious if someone has done it already.

I have a VERY capable laptop with Windows 8 Pro and my job just sent me a Dell XPS 12 convertible ( which is f***ing awesome because its a tablet and a PC in one! And of course it runs Windows 8 ) and I would like to use either one for my datalogging, maps, etc.

And who knows... I may get a Windows 8 tablet (7-8 inches coming soon ) and do a tablet retro into my dash. Now how cool would that be???

A fellow orger here just went through all of this. He has Windows 8, 64 bit.

We couldn't get his laptop to connect with the EU. He tried the whole "compatibility mode" thing too. No luck.

Another orger tried his laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and did the "compatibility mode" and that didn't work either.

Greddy was contacted. I could be mistaken, but I believe Greddy said it had to be Windows 7 32 bit or older, and prefers XP over anything.

The only way we were able to connect to the EU was with my ol' trusty Windows XP laptop (upgraded from Windows ME nonetheless).

The good news is the EU is up and running, I got his MEVI activating through the EU, and recently set up his 2-step launch this past weekend.

I guess il have to do that. My sister has a little netbook (windows 7 starter 32 bit) il have to convince her to let me borrow it.

I know it probably cost Greddy some money but I hope they get with the times and release compatible updates for 64 bit laptops and the newer versions of Windows.

What about loading XP on a usb and booting from it? Wouldn't that work as well?

 

Create a partition on your win8 system and load up an XP OS on the partition. That way you can have a dual boot lappy.

You can have 32 and 64 on the same pc.

 

Well you can run a 32 bit OS on a 64 machine. But it doesn't work vice versa. 32 supports near 4GB of ram while 64 bit can support well over that. I might just do the dual boot then using some bootleg XP image lol.
