99 maxima engine removal

Hey everyone my name is Steve and I'm new here. I'm hoping to get some help with instructions for removing my engine. I have a bad head gasket that I need to replace. I attempted to do this with the engine still mounted but couldn't get the drive pulley off. So I was hoping it would be easier to just take the engine out, but I find that I'm running into problems.

I currently have everything disconnected and the engine is attached to my hoist. When trying to pull it up from the top, it's not coming free from the transmission. There are no bolts currently connected as far as what I can see. I could lower it to the bottom but the lower crossmember to frame bolts are all rusted.

Is there a way to remove the engine from the top or is there a way to replace both head gaskets with the engine still mounted? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Engine and trans are mounted together.

Just a reminder, when you pull the engine, SAND DOWN THE MATING SURFACES between the engine and transmission before you put it all back together to avoid hard starts / starting issues in the future.

Thanks Amerikaner83, this is exactly the info I was looking for. Now I just bolt my transmission back up to my engine and take the whole thing out.
