Engine coolant Temp Sensor wiring

I have a 98 Nissan Maxima Se that recently generated P0115 code. It also has been randomly stalling. I changed the ECTS but still get code and random stalling. I took to an independent auto mechanic and they said the ECTS wire to the PCM has a short in it but they could not fix it because the wire coming from the ECTS is yellow and they could not find a yellow wire anywhere at the PCM. They did not want to take the entire harness apart so they didn't do anything. They suggested a Nissan dealer would have the proper wire diagram to tell which wire is correct at the PCM. I haven't gone to Nissan dealer yet for fear of big bill. Anyone have a suggestion on how to fix/find this short.

I suggest you find a new mechanic. LOL

Download and use the appropriate Factory Service Manual (FSM) for the wiring diagram of the ECU using the link below. Then test for continuity.

Short in ECTS wire

Thanks for the FSM's. The mechanic indicated he thought their was a short in the wire from ECTS to ECM but could not identify it. According to the FSMs it appears to be a yellow wire entering the ECM at pin #59. How do I replace this wire ?does it involve taking apart the harness ? Do I need to bring to nissan dealer and if so, what could I expect for costs. ? Thanks again for your help.

I would not take apart the harness. I would simply cut the wire about 4" from the ECU harness plug, and simply run a new wire into the engine bay and connect it directly to the ECTS. But before you do anything, test for continuity; your mechanic could have misdiagnosed the problem.

Any good mechanic can do this, no need for Nissan Dealer. Expect a minimum of 2 hours labor. It's a simple job, just tedious.
