What Does A High Stall Torque Converter Feel Like?

I'm still debating a conversion to 5sp or tranny rebuild. if i rebuild it ill get some performance parts. what i wanna know is how a high stall tq converter feels liek in everyday driving. is there lag or does it jerk? i really have no clues so throw them at me...i have no time to search im at work.

A stall converter is just used for lauching the car at a set rpm. It will kill your everyday driveability. Think of it this way, If a stall of 3500 rpm is installed, that means that no matter what you do, you wont take off until 3500 rpms, and of course it's pretty harsh when it does take off. What exactly are you trying to do? Maybe there's another way that won't kill your everyday ride.

just trying to get some performance out of a rebuilt tranny. perhaps some performance clutches would help? or just the valve body shift kit?

Do you have any other performance mods?

Get a 2200-2500k stall converter, cuz what was mentioned above(3.5K) is a hi rpm to start on a Maxi. And it wont kill your driveability too bad.

I might get a tranny rebuild too from Level Ten. It's a Stage I rebuild. I wouldn't get a high stall converter unless you drag race often.

I think you should reword your reply. Our OEM torque converter stalls at around 2300 rpm. Does your car go when you lightly accelerate from a stop? Of course it does. Will a car with a 3500 stall torque converter go when you lightly accelerate from a stop? Of course it will.

The big difference is when you mash the accelerator from a stop. The car won't launch until your car reaches it's stall speed, but when it does, it'll launch with more power at the wheels and you'll get faster times providing you have enough traction.

Why shouldn't you get too high of a stall speed? Well theoretically, normal accelerating below your stall speed will feel more sluggish & that'll affect your everyday drivablility. However, I have a Protorque torque converter with a 2800 stall speed and I hardly notice any difference with normal everyday driving.
