I need help asap! Please

Whats up people?? I have a 98 Max GXE and my check engine light wont go off. three different mechanics said change the Car Computer but no one seem to have one. I got one from a friend in Brooklyn and he installs it but still the Check engine light is on with some new codes so maybe the guy put in a bad computer, do i need to go to the nissan dealer and pay a load of money to get my problem fixed? maybe a brand new computer from nissan dealer? because of this problem i cant pass inspection and i cant get my car registered at the DMV. HELP???

How about telling us the original codes as well as the new ones? And title your thread appropriately. What are your symptoms?

We can't help you unless we know the problem.

98 does not need to be taken to the dealer for programming.Just make sure when you get the new ECU that the number on top matches with yours. What codes does the ECU show?

Maxima ecus seldom go bad. Chances are, yours and the replacement are good and you just need to fix some things on the car. Knowing what the codes and symptoms are would help us help you.

Yea, 95-99 computers rarely go bad. I've worked on over 50 of these cars and only came across one with a bad computer. It was a 1997 with an high idle. We changed the TPS, checked wiring, etc.etc.Luckily there was a spare 97' computer hanging around and that solved the problem.

If your check engine light comes on right away after the codes are cleared, it is a good chance you have a broken or shorted wire somewhere.
