Maintain or run until death

Hi all, I have a 95 Infiniti I30. So because the odometer is broken, we estimate the car has 250k. Our neighbors sold us the car when the odometer broke at 130k in 2003. We estimated 12k miles a year. The atf has never been changed and the coolant has never been changed. Spark plugs have never been changed. The only routine maintenance has been new oil every 6 months and brake pads and tires when necessary. Starter was changed in 2006 and fuel pump and fuel filter were changed this past week.

So, I've started to notice some problems. The idle is a little rough, and the automatic transmission shifts hard from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3. My question is should I completely service the car: coolant flush, transmission fluid and filter change, new spark plugs, and coil packs? or should I just wait for the next thing to break?

Thanks in advance

we bought the car for $1000, and didn't feel like investing the money in fixing the odometer given how cheap the car was. We didn't expect the car to even run this long

Its like next to nothing to fix it. I can tell your going to run the car until it death. So why bother fixing anything bc you bought a really sour lemon.

The car is no doubt in severe need of having the spark plugs changed. The schedule calls for every 100k miles. You may even have the originals in it, you're lucky it starts. this could be the cause of the rough idle. The throttle body might need cleaning, this is another rough idle cause.

Other maintenance that needs to be done is the engine air filter. I forget the interval but it is probably something like every 60k miles.

Other stuff like having the cooling system flushed is a good idea. A fresh shot of chemicals helps the water pump, radiator and heater core to last longer.

The transmission fluid could be low after all those miles. And this could cause the rough shifting. You could check the level and see, but drain and re-fill is about 4 quarts. Do not let some place talk you into flushing the auto trans unless you want to buy a new trans.

The car with this many miles and the tranny that never been serviced is just asking for trouble. The tranny gets the much needed flush than you will start slipping very bad. What is the color and the smell of the tranny. I would change the coolant and the plugs and the other much needed services, like the TB,IACV ECT.
