Picture of inside of drivers door

Years ago when I was replacing my driver side door speaker a small piece of styrofoam got knocked off that was attached to the plastic water shield cover.

I didn't think too much of it until summertime when I went to roll down the window and the rubber seal along the top of door cover snagged on the window and wouldn't allow the window to roll down, or at least not without bogging down, or me having to pull the cover away from the window to keep it from catching.

Now I know what that styrofoam was for; a spacer to keep this from happening.

In the hopes that I don't have to pull my passenger door to see the size and placement of this styrofoam spacer, I was hoping someone might have a picture of an unmolested drivers side door behind the panel so I can mock up a new piece to fix the problem that will probably lead to me burning out my window motor if left as is.

Thanks,

1997 GLE w/ Bose if it matters..

Strange, I took out that Styrofoam years ago but never had any issues. I took them out and dynomatted both panels of the door. I never had any snag issues, are you sure it is the styrofoam?

Thanks for the reply.

What else could the problem be?

I assumed that was the only thing that changed so it had to be it.

I'm open to any suggestions.

I guess I'll just rip into the door again and scratch my head some more...idk.

I'm having that exact same problem right now. Anyone else had this and figured out how to fix it?

I've heard about spraying sticking windows with a silicone type spray. Don't know if that's going to solve your problem though.

Thanks, but that's a big no.
Smearing silicone all over the window as it rolls up and down.
No thanks.

It's the rubber trim that's catching friction when rolling it down.

It actually grabs it and starts to fold it in to the point the window doesn't want to roll down/struggles until I roll it up and or physically pull the rubber and plastic away from it so it has space/no friction.

My mistake man. Its not a silicone type spray, its a lubricating spray for silicone (I believe the weather stripping is silicone) the only brand I recall is acura silicone spray. I have a can of those and it worked on my old suburban. From what you describe though it might be that Styrofoam.

Just trying to help like you've helped me.

Might be a dumb suggestion but have you pulled off your panel and checked to see if your Regulator track screws are tightened? I had mine loose one time, it didn't SOUND loose but it shifted just enough to mess with the glass in the track. I didn't find it until I took the panel off. Mine was a combo of the lower two screws loose enough and the top one that can slide in place was too loose.

Worth a try.
Just a strange coincidence if so.
Thanks!

Yes definitely pull off the panel and see what is going on in there. Only takes a few minutes to remove the panel and you'll have a much better idea of what is causing it.

Same problem here, the silicone/rubber trim strip at the top of the door ledge was the culprit. It had become loose fitting on the panel itself. It is supposed to squeegee condensation from the inside of the window. If it becomes loose and is allowed to rub on a dry window it will catch and create a lot of drag. The more this happens the looser the seal becomes and the harder it drags. I just glued the strip back onto the the panel ledge and all is good.

Gorilla glue... take the strip completely off and set it in the sun to warm up and run a bead inside the length to just about an inch from either end. I suppose rtv would work just as well. I just happened to have the glue handy.

Interesting.
Thanks.
If that is what ends up being the definitive problem, I have some locktight all weather tape I may try.
Only gorilla glue I have on hand is for wood and I'm

Long overdue update..

I have been working on my car a lot.
Interior detailing and fixing small issues.

I took off my DS front door to replace a blown speaker and scrubbed the door panels down until it actually looked tan again.

When I put it back together all clean I have no more issues with the window trim getting pulled down when I roll down the window.

I don't know if the fix was due to cleaning or removal and reinstall, but I'm happy.

It's scary when things work after just taking it apart and putting it together.

The RR door on my 2000 was like that. I took it apart, scratched my hemorrhoids for a while, swore at it and put it back together. Still working fine after several years.

i found that garage door slider spray works great for sticking windows. i had a guy at home depot who used to be a mechanic tell me about it and i never looked back. its like 4 or 5 bucks and you spray it down the corners of the windows, ( not on the glass ) and put the windows up and down a few times and wallah!!! if only everyone was as **** about keeping the maxy's clean as i am.

What's all this about **** lube?

I'm worried that might mess with my tint or leave a haze.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it sounds like it touches the glass in one way or another..

Its like when you have different tints on the fronts and rears.

Like when the NJ State Police pulled me over and told me that I had to get rid of that film on my front windows.
