Audio fuse issue
Audio fuse issue
I have a 97 Maxima SE. I have an after market radio in the car. Been in there for 3 years. I do still use the factory Bose speakers and amp. Yesterday the audio quit playing out of the speakers. For some reason the 15 amp BOSE fuse was blown. I replaced it and turned the car on (not started) and it blows it again. Radio comes on but no audio comes out of any speakers. No other fuses are having any issues. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Thanks
Have you taken the stereo out at all? Maybe a wire came unhooked? I don't have a BOSE but I think the amp is located in the trunk?? Have you put anything in your trunk recently and possibly hit the amp or a wire to it?

As Aflion said, each speaker has its own amp. If you look at tthe speakers, you will see that there is a red wire on each one. This is the 12 volts from the fuse.
The easiest way to figure this out would be to go into the trunk and unplug both speakers and try a new fuse.
If the fuse doesn't blow, then one of the 2 rear speakers has a problem. Plug one of them in and repeat the test.
If the fuse still blows when you unplug both rear speakers, then the problem is with one of the front speakers. You will have to take the door panel off to get at the speaker, but unplug one and repeat the test.
If you are an electrical guy and have a volt/ohmmeter, you could save the fuses and check for a shorted amplifier pcb by checking resistance. You would unplug the wires and check between the pins on the pcb that would have the red and black wires attached to them.

This happened to me once with my aftermarket HU and oem bose speakers/amps. Turned out one of the connections behind the HU had come losoe and was touching metal every once in a while. Found the cuplrit, fixed it, and have been problem free for about 1.5 years now.
I suggest you check all the connections in back of your HU. It sounds like the wire that tells the Bose amps to turn on has come loose.
