Is that a good price for that? what could keep it from starting, and have him puzzled? I'm kind of interested in this. what do you guys think?

For a car that won't start, I'm much less than impressed with that price. Is a running 97 Maxima worth $4K in your area? The body seems to look good in the photo.

A lot of things could be keeping it from starting, so you could have a long troubleshooting time ahead of you. He may have mis-wired the ECU as some pins need to be swapped, but who knows if it is as simple as that.

True, there's no way a 97 max in my area with all the rust up here is worth 4 g's unless it was immaculate with real low miles. but i don't know anything really about how much the set up with the 3.5 swap would be worth. it was just a thought you know, i dream one day to 3.5 swap. a buddy of mine has one and he said you can deff feel the power difference. but I don't want to "dig a hole" in my wallet to get there haha. one day though

If the project has been taking him two years and he cant even get the car to run, then personally id say its not worth that price.

It seems likely much of his price logic is based on the money he spent rather than the cars actual worth. We need to remember this is a non running car that is over 16 years old. While the car seems in nice shape, i certainly wouldnt pay more than 1500 as is, and even that is a gamble simce the problem is a mystery.

Even if it did run, 4k is very high to pay for a 4th gen, 3.5 swap or not. 3500 would be a more realistic price; while we as maxima enthusiasts may value it more than others, it is a buyers market, especially for a tuner car such as that.

My 2 cents.

I would not pay more than $750 for this particular car, and that's assuming the body and everything else is in good to great condition.

it's worth probably 2000 with the engine and all of the parts. if you got it for 2000 you could part that mug out and make some profit

he probably did the cps wrong..... lol

$500-800 and that would be only with a leakdown or compression test I did myself. Better yet trade him for something you don't need. I recently did this very thing for a 3000gt vr4 the guy dropped a new engine in but didnt put one of the sensors back in. It wasn't too much of a gamble as I did a compression check on all cylinders beforehand and he had the engine receipt, took me a few days to troubleshoot but I have been smiling ever since.

thanks guys for all your input! I am definetly going to stay away from it I was just really curious I guess. However I did go as far as asking him if he starts parting out, how much for the fenders (as mine are rusted and I need new ones)
haha. other than that I'm all set wasting my time and money

I found this guy on my local craigslist trying to sell a 96 with a "bad frame" and transmission (never mentioned that on the ad) for $1000. i'm probably going to offer $200 and see how it goes

The bottom of my car has been through hell and back with 15 years of salted roads and an accident that left the car sitting in the dirt with all 4 wheels off the ground - and all it has to show is some pockets of surface rust.

Maybe the guy was referring to the lower rad suppport as part of the frame? God knows its a miracle mine is even still held together with the rust holes it has.

I wish I knew what that guy was even referring to about the rotten frame, when i talked to that guy on the phone he told me to go look at the car but couldn't tell me his exact address (which I don't even think he knew). Hopefully this weekend I could take a look at it if this guy figures out where he lives
