Rough Start Up

So my car started to start very roughly, it would turn over but didn't grab, only after a little while with the help of throttle it would start.

So here is what i did so far.

• New Starter & New Optima Red Battery
• New OEM Fuel Filter
• Cleaned Cam and Crank Position sensors. (Car started a little easier)

After doing that to start the car i have it turn over a bunch and then turn ignition off for a minute and then try and start it again and it starts (the starter spins faster and it starts right up)

I am wondering if this is an issue with an ebay starter that i put in or a ground issue ?

P.S
The car drives fine so i doubt it's fuel pump.

If you havent done this:

http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...g-dummies.html

Do that. It is the best place i can think to start and if doesn't actually solve the problem ...doing this will rule it all out.

Along the way be sure to look for leaks/cracks in the hoses and plastic as those just dont help.

Good answer newbie, and welcome to the Org.

OP, a video would help determine whether it's a cranking or engine management issue. If the engine and trans have ever been separated, the grounding through the mating surfaces are highly suspect, and been proven many times here.

Agreed. After improvising a ground kit, I immediately got my ability to start the engine back and it was throwing fewer ghost codes. It was finally drivable and reliable again.

Since cleaning the bell housing surfaces (while replacing the clutch) it now has no problems whatsoever, and hasn't thrown a single ECU code.

This wasn't the easiest thing to figure out and I wasn't completely sure about the solution until after it was done and I could immediately see the results.

This was the simplest solution to the variety of ECU codes I was reading, not to mention the whole epic cranking without starting thing. It now starts up instantly. Like new.

Test your sensors. Don't assume they work even if they are new. If your ECU is getting bad data, it will run your engine badly. If your engine ground connection is suspect, even perfectly good sensors may not read correctly.

Good luck! -pc

Now my car started to stall at idle every now and then, and while driving it shakes sometimes losing throttle ability for like 10 seconds or so then goes back to normal. car drives fine otherwise. I got the P1335 code. i tested the CKPS harness and the sensor, tested the REF sensor resistance, which both seem to work.

EDIT:

I just completed all the tests from FSM for the P1335 Crankshaft REF and POS. All tests passed ok. Even tested theNext thing i might try is get a new crankshaft pos ref sensor, even tho it had a resistance of 520 which is normal.

I tried adding jumper cables from battery negative to bell housing screws. nothing changed.

MY trouble codes are: P0325 - Knock Sensor, P1335 - Crankshaft REF, P0130 - O2 B1S1

Just put in a new CPS REF sensor. But now i think i need a MAF sensor as well.

EDIT:

Ok got a new MAF now and car runs fine now, seems to start good, we will see how it cold starts tomorrow. So far seems to be good! Now time to do the o2.

My 1999 Maxima starts rough after sitting over 5 hours or night. It has a little shaking until I apply a gas pedal then it is fine. It does not happen once the engine is already warmed. Any help I appreciated.
