99 radio problem, ground related?

I've replaced many car radios and never had this much pita. Once I looked at the connectors I cussed a blue steak at Nissan; really, no ground wire just the mounting bolts? So I've grounded to a frame bolt inside there. Seems to work fine, for a while, then the radio won't come on at all. I just open the dash, unplug the unit for a min or two and reconnect then its fine again for a while. Some time weeks or months. Help what the hell did I do wrong. I've searched all over including this site and not found anyone else having similar trouble.

I haven't heard of this happening, so I have to think you have a one-of-a-kind. Lucky you.

What you could try is to sand the paint off of the spot where you have the ground wire attached. Right now, you are relying on the threads of the screw/bolt.
