trying to identify brake pads
Hi guys,
I'm trying to identify the brake pads on my wife's 99 I30. It came with it and I find them a bit on the weak side. They are sort of fine for daily driver, but I'm not sure if they can do a proper panic stop (with ABS and reasonable tires).
The printed number is ASA401EE924.. I guess "EE" is the friction class and the model should be identifiable by "ASA401" (not sure about "1" - it is fainted). Pads material look like it has a metal wool. To me it looks like they are installed by previous owner in DIY job, so they could be anything.
Once I know what they are it will help me to decide if I need to step-up with Akebono ProAct (front only) or much more expensive StopTech Street Performance (front+rear).
Thanks, CK
EDIT: some pics

Identifying them isn't going to make them stop any better. If you don't like the way the car stops, replace the brakes with something you know has the stopping power you desire.
Thanks for the replies, sure I'm going to replace them, but not sure with what. I have hawk HPS on the other car (not a maxi) and they are an overkill for DD. I need a step up from the current pads without going to extremes.
The current pads are not glazed. If they are really a low grade (like EE) the Akebonos will be good enough. Otherwise I would need to go with Stoptech SP. If I can not identify the current pads then I may need to go with a try and error procedure, starting with Akebonos

IMO if there's one thing you're gonna overkill on a vehicle it would be the brakes. You never know when you're gonna need that extra stopping power, but when you do, you'll be thankful for the investment.
I'd just get some cermamics from the part store. I got Wagner Thermo Quiets for like $8 last year and they stopped really nice.
You dont really needs Hawks for a DD. Yeah the bite is awesome but they dust like a ****
