Ok, so I'm in the middle of my vq30de-k swap and also converting the car from auto to 5spd. Donor car - 98 5spd manual, current car (99 auto) Im using the 98 5spd tranny on the swap. My parts car gave me 98 manual trans axles w/o ABS. My current car (99 auto) has ABS and I have been reading that I need ABS axles so they fit. In some more research I've found out theres an ABS ring on the axles with ABS, naturally.. SO, is it possible to just pull off the rings from my current car (99auto) axles and put them onto my manual trans (985spd) axles to make them compatible? My goal is to not spend $100+ on new ABS axles if its possible to just work with what I already have.
Thanks for looking, and Special thanks to anyone who can offer some valid information on this!

The rings come off very easily. You can heat them up with a torch and they will come off and slip right back on even. I had to remove the ring from my replacement axle (by choice, not necessity) and it just took a couple tabs with a hammer and punch without any heat.

Umm...IMO, I would have just bought the outer CV boot kits and just transfer over the end of the axle over while putting on a new boot.
