Startin out

So just got my 97 i got a check engine light and sometimes flashing ran codes said misfiring never specified which #. Anyway I replaced plugs and it still runs a little rough I suppose and the lights are still On Ill reset the codes tomorrow and get back but im thinking a coil pack so ill just buy new ones. My exhaust is leaking and rusted like crazy.. which exhaust is the best for the money (links please) And intake also.. Wanna bump this thing up a little i know it won't do much but if there are threads to mod lists and threads please link me along with maintenance. Any info is helpful thanks guys!

Youre situation seems a lot like how mine was when i first found this website lol.

What brand plugs did you buy? Anything other than NGK is a no-go. If youre getting multiple misfire code it could be your injectors, try running injector cleaner through your gas, techron worked miracles for me. If its one cylinder then try testing the coil pack on that cylinder, or clear the codes and swap that cylinder's coilpack with another cylinder's coil; if the misfire moves to the next cylinder then youve found your problem.

For exhaust, what section(s) need replacing? Many including myself suggest a Warpspeed Y pipe for the, you guessed it, Y pipe. There are many other affordable options as well so do some searching. Be sure to check if your car is cali or federal spec.

Your cat should be ok but if the flanges are rusted away like mine were you may consider splurging and getting a test pipe (if you dont have emissions testing in your state) or a high flow cat. Warpspeed performance has the latter if youre interested but dont expect it to turn your car into a rocket by any means, the gains are quite minimal.

As far as catbacks go you have countless options, catback will have a big impact on how your car sounds so youre going to need to do the homework there yourself. Personally Id say stay away from the ebay fartcannon catbacks, they sound poor and fit even worse (CLANG CLANG CLANG).

For an intake you also have many many options, however if you dont mind waiting a couple weeks I have a 97' injen CAI that I will be selling so PM me if you are interested in that. Id suggest reading some of the stickies for this particular topic as options and setups can vary greatly.

Finally, as you stated you have rust problems I ****HIGHLY**** suggest you check on the health of your lower radiator support. Its the square piece of frame directly below your radiator, behind your lower bumper, and is prone to rusting in even the driest of states. If yours is funked be sure to buy OEM and ONLY OEM as the aftermarket ones here break.

Be sure to read the stickies religiously as TONS of info for a newcomer like yourself can be found and easily made sense of even if you have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever.

Just a warning on coils... most aftermarket ones have issues. Go with new oem or go to a u pull it junk yard and pull used ones. They are better than most aftermarkets. Make sure they are hanshin and off of a pre-99.
