When Is It Time To Hang It Up For This 4th Gen?
When Is It Time To Hang It Up For This 4th Gen?
Car Got Totaled Out In October... Bought It Back From Nationwide For 450 Bucks After They Sent Me A Check For $2200
Hood, Lights, Bumper, Bumper Lights, & Fender $130
Starter $125 (Labor $10)
Radiator $125 (Labor $40)
Water Pump $50 (Free Labor)
Brakes $50 (Free Labor)
H&R Springs & KYB Struts $550 (Labor $450)
2 Axles $140 (Labor $350)
Just Trying To Figure Out If It's Worth The Effort To Continue On With This Vehicle
Oh, And Let's Not Forget The Rusted Out Cat Back And 2 Flat Tires This Morning
And Bent Condenser That Wouldn't Get Worked On Until Spring
When Is Enough Enough? Anything Else I Should Be Looking Forward To Getting Serviced? Just Hit 170k

Radiator support is common for these cars also. I'd check that espicially if you're located in the "rust belt" area. Also check your rockers, as they tend to rust out aswell. As far as other common issues as these cars age, ill let other people chime in.
What i dont get is how the labor for the water pump is free and yet it's going to cost you $450 labor for the suspension?
At the end of the day it's all in your hands and a decision you will have to make for yourself. I sold my max @240K miles, the head gaskets went out shortly afterwards (probably cause the kid that bought it drove it like sh**, pretty much redline every gear). Non the less they are great cars, if your engine & trans is solid you may want to hold onto her for a while longer. If not sell it and get even more $$$ for a new car.

)... Only Thing Is He Doesn't Do Suspension Work So I Had To Get The Suspension Put In From An ORGer
If your quarter panels aren't rusted out I'd say keep it. Who's doing the suspension? (Djfrestyl I presume) I'd get your mechanic to do the timing chain tensioner/guide while he's doing the water pump and like 99maxwell said check out the rad support. That mileage isn't bad at all as long as it's been maintained.

They sent you 2200 and you gave them 450 back on a 17 year old vehicle?
Enough was enough when it was totaled. Now it's just a complete waste of time & money you'll never get back on a modded 17 year old car with a salvage title.
Sorry guys, as much as I love my 4th gen, that was just stupid. Do the math.

That $2,200 was $600 more than I paid for my 96. I would have parted it out and bought another car.
If you have repaired the damage and are now just maintaining the car, you should cut it loose when the repair costs equal to a car payment.
I would guess about $250.00 a month, or 3K a year.
engine or trans replacement would be an automatic dump if your already spending alot of money patching the car up constantly.
For me major body work would be an automatic dump as well.
