loose cam pulley

Howdy,

I put my car back together last night and it didn't start. After I got out of traffic court today, court costs only, I looked at the car. I noticed the cam pulley was wobbling from side to side. Could this have caused the no start? Much easier than taking the timing chain cover off again. Any advice is much appreciated

you took your timing cover off? If you were looking at the cam pulleys then the timing cover was off, and if the timing cover was off then the cam sensor would not be bolted in position, and if you cam sensor is not hooked up the car should not run.

Meant the main dual pulley by the oil filter , it wasn't in the keyway. Someone dropped the timing chain tensioner into the timing cover, didn't have any choice in taking it off. The camshaft position sensor was in, everything was hooked up and the oil pan had the sludge taken out.

Crankshaft pulley^

It should not be wobbling.

If you fix that and it still does not start, timing might be off.

I'm in a similar situation except my timing is off just a tad. Starts but runs like crap. Lame.

Okay, the crank pulley. How was it not on the keyway? If some how it's not then your timing will be way off and the car would either not run or run horrible.

Have you done a compression check?

First you called the AC compressor a condenser, now the crank pulley a cam pulley. Learn your terminology! Help us help you.

Maybe you left out some incongruous bolts that you felt were in an incongruous spots. LOL

The book called it a condenser, not a compressor. :-) It was dark and the mechanic and I were in a rush to finish last night. It ran fine except for cylinder #4 misfiring before the water pump needed changing, so compression shouldn't be an issue. Except for the back alternator bolt .the only were the lug nuts sure to having the right front tire off.
