What's the name of this part? Pt.II

Moog sells just the ball joint (with boot). the old one has to be pressed out and the new one pressed in. The way to check if the ball joint itself is bad, is to lift that one wheel off the ground with a jack under the car, put one hand on the top of the tire and one on the bottom and shake the wheel in and out (one hand in one hand out). If its bad you will feel and see the ball joint moving, any movement in no good. It may not be bad yet, but with the boot ripped and no grease its just a matter of time.

The install for the balljoint is a little tough. Just did one a day ago on the 4th gen I recently bought, the nut was striped, had to torch it off. Beat it out with a small sledge hammer, and press the new one in. Deff not something I would attempt infront of my house with no air compressor and no ball joint press. The balljoint itself was so shot it was ready to pop out any day now.

@islandmax: I did that test a week ago and did noticed slight movement. I jacked the car up last night and noticed grease everywhere!
@deezo: i just may look into getting the LCA w/ball joint installed. I dont have a air compressor or ball joint compressor...or even a sledge hammer!
Thanks for you guys input, it's very helpful!

LCA Ball Joint
Boule, as I viewed the picture you posted with the ball joint circled, I looked at the CV joint boot in the picture, and it appears there may be a crack in it, up towards the upper left corner of the picture. You mentioned a lot of grease down in that area, or that it was quite dirty. The ball joint wouldn't have enough in it to cause a "real dirty" condition down there, unless you were continually pumping grease into it, say to keep water/dirt out until you get it replaced. The CV joint boot doesn't appear greasy/dirty though, which it would normally be if it is torn, as the lube would spin out over time. Just a cautionary note that you might take a look at it. Seems like one week the boots are good and the next week one will be torn. I try to remember to inspect mine fairly frequently. Good success with the project......Gary

The 2 bigger connectors are connecting the harness from the front of the car to the harness for the rear of the car. Instead of one long, difficult to install harness, it is made up two sections coupled together.
The 2 smaller connectors - the one towards the front of the car is only used on California cars, it is for a fuel pump control modulator.
The other connector has a dropping resistor plugged into it. Can't remember what it's for.

Not sure, I always drive the speed limit and obey every traffic law... now where's that sarcasm emoticon? Wait, doesn't that mean my car can run on trash? That explains the members that run 87 octane
My car is so dirty, those gloves were white before I lifted the trunk open.

Well right now I'm liable to jump on board just based on something else I learned while peaking through one of your albums. I'm not gonna say what it was so not to make myself look like a total retard (if previous posts haven't done that already) but I guarantee I'm the most excited person on the org right now
