235s On Stock 16s?

Anyone run 235s on stock 4th Gen 16x6s?

I'm currently running 215/60s on my stock SEL wheels.

I'd like to run something fatter and have calculated that a 235/55 is about a spot on match to the 215/60s.

That's a bit wide for the wheel. IMO it will look funny and probably is not the safest choice.

The stock rim width is 6.5 inches. Most 235/55-16 tires will fit on rims between 6.50" and 8.50" wide.

Your current tire, 215/60, 215mm wide or approx 8.46 inches.
The proposed 235/55 tire is 20mm wider or about .78 inch wider.

The only possible problem would be that a wider tire might rub the inner fender when the wheels are turned fully. I really don't know if this would happen. In order to rub, it would mean that there is currently less than .4 inch clearance on the current tires. I bet there is a lot more room than .4 inch.

Another thing to keep in mind is a low profile 235 for a 16" wheel is a very rare size. So finding what you want will be a challenge

The 4th gen is a very light car. Going with fatter tires will improve dry grip, but wet grip will be worse.

I would suggest, rather than go with wider tires, get spacers. It looks like you've already lowered your car.

This is my I30 with 2000 16" rims and stock tires. It's OEM but different, so to speak.

It's lowered with H&Rs and KYB-GR2s and has 5 mm spacers on all 4 corners.

They won't fit!!!! Cause they don't exist 235/??/16!!!!!!! 235/45/17 are the perfect plus size for a 225/50/17 and I believe the 16's on my 2000 GLE were 215/55/16 (25.3" dia, approx 824 rev/mi....) and you're only choice is to either upgrade only to 225/50/16's or upgrade to a 17" or 18" rim

Click the tire rack link above.

If for some reason the link won't work, go to tirerack.com and search for 235/55/16. There are only 4 tires available (as I recall) but they're there, one of which is the Kumho Solus for $100.00.

It wouln't open the first time but did just now....Anyway you must not know a thing about plus 1 or plus 2 fitment? 215/55/16 (OEM) to a 235/55/16 with a 26.1" dia. and turning only 799 rev/mi......?????

25.3" increased to a 26.1" tire sounds like some rubbing or aleast a speedometer so far off it's not funny.....824 rev/mi vs 799 rev/mi....That's quite a bit! I would be easier just going to either 225/50/16 or 17" wheels.....It's not my car so whatever.....

They exists. Like I said, very odd size. 10 years dealing in the tire world,I unfortunately know a bit about tires. I could do more digging and see if there are more then two options, but that's not my job anymore

When I had 225/50r16 Pzeros on the stock (6.5") wheels I immediately noticed a loss in steering response. It felt really sloppy. I swapped the tires to Z32 (7.5") wheels and they went back to feeling tight. The factory wheel is too narrow for wider tires.

Honestly, simply based on the pricing of the tires ... even in the 225s ... I think I'll reinstall the M45 18s and do either a 235/40 or a 245/40.
