mine had this problem for one day then just started working forever again

My problem started when i pulled out the cluster. When i put it back in, the odo stopped working. I'm assuming it's a loose connection or something. Take out the cluster and unplug and replug it back in (all cables attached) see if that helps.

I pulled the cluster this weekend- cleaned all the contacts-but did not open it up- reinstalled- tried it and it still stopped after about 12-15 miles of highway driving. speedo works fine- 96 I30- any suggestions?

Is this a digital or analog odometer? Does the trip odometer work?

Do both stop working, or just the main one?

they both stop working together- I think it might have something to do with the temp.- i droive in today with heat off and it worked up to 20 miles- i did think that the lights inside cluster may have heated it up inside the cluster.?

Could be, but I wouldn't think so...you're the only person out of thousands on this board with this problem...

Can you reset the trip odometer? I know on an older Nissan that I've had, the reset button froze, and locked up the trip odometer. It wouldn't work at all...but the main one still worked fine.

i can reset trip odometer. and during the intial phase when it is working -it will reset to zero and start counting again. but at some point it will stop with the main odometer and stay frozen for the rest of the day.

What happens when you reset it when the odometers aren't working? Does it just stay at 000.0?

Violence is always worth a shot.

Um, I would think your next step would be to take apart the cluster and check for loose connections as mentioned...maybe even test the signal wire and trace it to see if its cracked or something somewhere. Sounds like a PITA. Sorry I'm not more help!
