'99 SE 5-spd, feels "gritty" going into 5th

Hey guys, I need some opinions. I have a '99 SE 5-speed, 59,750 miles, bought it at 37,000. Recently, in the cold New England weather, I've noticed the shift to 5th feeling a little "gritty" or non-smooth, when the car is cold. I've had Redline MT-90 in there for about 5k miles. Shifting 1st->2nd feels that way too sometimes when it's cold. Could this be my synchros? I've always shifted smoothly, slowly, never raced it, though not sure about the previous owner. I have an appointment Monday morning to have a Nissan service tech drive it, but wanted to get some opinions here first. This morning my first shift to 5th kind of felt like it may have ground a bit, it didn't feel too good through the lever. Thoughts, opinions? If it is my synchros, and Nissan doesn't want to cover it, how much are those to replace? <nervous> Thanks!

It's happened both ways, when I let my car warm up, and when I don't, which surprised me. I shift at 3000 RPM, gently. It is worse when the car is cold, but it just feels like this is maybe not quite normal. This is my first winter with the car, I'd just gotten it last spring so I didn't have many cold days. I'd expect the car to not want to shift as fast when it's cold, but not to feel like things are grinding a bit. *Is* this normal??
