that make them still look damn good. they're getting close to 20 years old now but too me they look newer. same thing goes to the 5th gens too. Anyone else feel the same way? and no i don't own on anymore so im not being biased but i'm considering getting another one

I really liked my 4th gen. They are still nice looking cars to me.

 

Classics always wins these over the top newer looking vehicles look good because their something new to see . Like new songs that never last like the classics

 

classics are better to have because u dont see it everyday and every mile, than new cars u can see every couple miles.

 

In my personal opinion most newer cars are really fat and bulky looking with waaay too many stupid features.

I just like the bodystyle.

 

i agree, the bulky cars is not my type... and the "extra horsepower" in them is only to support the extra weight they weigh since now the car is bulkier.

 

They are nice cars, they look good, have sporty feel. I still own a Maxima - 02 SE 6 speed, but if I decided to sell it in the future, next car wont be a Maxima. I just do not see an incentive to buy 04+ Maxima. 95-03 is where it's at.

 

everyone has a good point I think what makes me want another one is that fact that they are reliable, mostly cheap aftermarket parts, tons of oem parts like i30 swaps or newer wheels and engine swaps and theyre sleepers even though theyre not really known as performance cars

 

Agreed.....the Maxima has gotten heavier over the years. It's still a fun car for me though.

My son now has my old 5th gen. I also still like the look of that car. We just put black vinyl on the roof, & against the pearl white it looks great.

i just bought a 2013 civic sedan, but i still love the styling of the 5 and 4th gens, no matter all the hell theyve put me through over the short 2 years i owned my maximas

i think its just that the 4th gen looks like a CAR. a clean and simple car.

nowadays every car looks like a beetleborg toy spaceship, its just tiring after a while. and im not even an old timer talkin about the good ol days, im 24.

Really a shame if they continue making the maxima heavier with no real improvement in horsepower. Not to mention FWD.

Unless it turns out to be absolutely ground breaking i cant see justifying spending 40 grand on something like that.

 

I love my 95. Ive had it for about 8 years. The body has about 310k miles on it and I do most the work myself. I just drove it on a 2,000 mile road trip and dont have any plans of getting rid of it. When it breaks again, ill fix it. Its affordable, reliable, roomy, gets decent gas mileage (about 27mpg), and I like the way it looks. Oh and 95 was the last year that having a check engine light on in this car didnt result in automatically failing emissions. They check the actual exhaust that comes out of the muffler.

 

I have had several cars from Gm and ford, and also 3 maximas, and by far in my opinion the maxima has outperformed each American car in terms of reliability, looks, performance, sportyness and gas mileage for the engine size. When I buy cars I look for reliability. I've had a 1987 maxima, a 93 and my current 4th gen that I have now, and I bought each one with high mileage close to 200k. They are good cars. My next car will prob be another 4th gen, or 5th gen.

 

LOL, I agree that the fat look of cars today doesn't beat the streamlined, long appearance of cars like the Acura Legend, Infiniti q45, etc. However, apparently it's for crash saftey ratings.

Pros:

The Maxima looks GOOD with decent paint job (That red above is hoooootttt) new shiny headlights, some nice 16" or larger alloy/chrome wheels and an I-30 swap interior. I mean, no diss to the cloth interior and steel wheels (I actually have steel wheels from Altima and hubcaps from the Rouge and it looks good and handles well in snow).

Cons:

Unfortunently, many Max's have been neglected as most reliable cars do. Leather seats are often disintegrated. Also, the interior instrument cluster/dashboard of the 4th Gen max is a bit plain and boring, sorry to say.

Cars these days have fun instrument panels that you can see gas mileage, how many miles you have left before you go empty, touch screen radio/ac control, etc. The Max is a great car...but it won't hurt to look into what's on the market nowadays.

 

^ a true driver would know how many gas miles before empty and maxis can add aftermarket stereos that r much better than factory , and new cars r too expensive to own, and by the time ya pay off the car, which is 7 years most of the time, fact... New cars/Dealerships are a scam. not worthy to buy one or get their service from them unless you have tons of $ money to blow.. but overall its not recommended

no driver needs the "Extra" features all it causes is distraction... hence texting and driving is one of em, adding a touch screen to do stuff is a distraction, same kinda concept of texting, just looking at a "Screen"

All about enjoying the drive and looking outside the world, not looking inside your car inside. when peoples eyes r staring at a phone all the time, they should be looking at a outside world they have in front of them, not a screen.

i don't understand why some of you guys have had 3 or 4 of these and i'm still on my first one. i figure take care of her and fix as needed and keep the mods at a minimum so you don't go overboard. ( ahem, wizard ) allthough i like all the creativity of the members over the years. chrisman is gonna love this, and so will tigersharkdude. as she was back in "05 before i picked maxy up!!

You're damn right a true driver would know. That being me lol. I've made it to each coast 4 times between San Fran and PA, from Miami and LA and several states in between times plus in a 3 year span. And I've been behind the wheel each time the whole way lol. Knock on wood, I've never ran out of gas although I've really scraped the 492 miles per tank our cars are rated...deducting a few miles for driving over speed limit, steel wheels, and age..and in some case, 87 gas

When I was referring to new cars, I was mainly talking about rentals. Sometimes you can find good deals for weekend and weekly rentals in many areas. I rented the '13 Altima and it was very fun to drive, smooth, and had all the gadgets. It just helps you keep up with the times and see what cars are coming out with LOL. I've rented 3 different vehicles since I've owned my Max, and I won't lie...I would much rather take those on road trips anyday. Just can't afford it every month lol. (although I cringed when I rented a GMC Terrain. Spacious, AWD, Amazing chrome/stereo package, black leather seats...but I was only getting a 400 mile range at 18-22 MPG going speed limit and paying $60 per fill up with a larger tank and a sluggish V6 engine compared to the Max. I drove from Denver to North Carolina, and was doing 68-70 mph just to squeeze out an extra 3 or 4 mpg)

However, I've even had mechanics of mine who worked on my 80s and 90s beaters, prefer and suggest to buy cars new. After awhile, you begin to understand why. But, I'm in no financial climate to even think about that right now. I also believe there are plenty of well-taken care of cars out there that aren't new. My Max was one of them (although it did need a little TLC, but nothing like my rusted out 87 Buick

 

^ Buying cars new is a good call simply because you exchange random payments associated with failing/broken parts for planned monthly payments and free warranty work.

id rather pay 150$ a month every month and know I have nothing to worry about rather than pay 0$ for 6 months and then randomly be hit with a $1200 repair bill that you didnt plan for. this is assuming you go with the extended warranty when buying new

Secondly, when you buy a car new you know exactly whats been done to it, and you know it hasnt been abused. Some people are just morons when it comes to cars and i hate discovering little 'repairs' past owners have made to my cars. I got in an accident with my first max and when I went to repair it i found that the entire section of the accident (rear quarter panel and half of the rocker panel) was entirely made of Bondo. I had no idea

buying brand new is one of the WORST financial decisions a person can ever make (assuming they plan on keeping the car less than 6 years or so) Depreciation, interest (0% APR is only for tier 1++ buyers, which means FICO over 750...800+ preferred) and standard wear and tear which is NOT covered under any warranty...

Taking your simple 150 a month into account...a smart, savvy person would set that aside anyhow with their older car for the repair and be proactive. No repair for 6 months? GREAT now you've got 900 bucks so you can pay cash for that repair.





The best move someone can do is get a car that is 2-3 model years old. It's cheaper, still likely has a factory warranty on it, and low miles.

 

I put down 10k on a 2013 civic and that leaves me with 70$ biweekly payments. The car is never gonna fail me for at least a few years, and if it does it's under warranty. Whats 70$ every couple weeks for flawless reliability and worry free maintenance? I almost save 70$ in gas alone every 2 weeks compared to my old maximas...

If you know how to work on used cars and can repair things yourself, then theyre a good idea. But for the average guy, used cars are a complete nightmare. Obviously i'm not gonna get an unbiased opinion here tho in the 4th gen section...

 

If I had a full time job I would start looking for a 97 or 98 GLE/SE either in Black, White or Crimson Red. 00vi that b1tch, install coilovers and call it a day

I would put my money, time and effort on a 3.5 swap but only if there was a HR FWD version of the 3.5 . If not, might as well convert the 4th gen into RWD.

 

Another 10 year venture for the coveted 4th gen RWD conversion.
