diameter of fuel filler neck

diameter of fuel filler neck
Hey guys, I'm looking to do a temporary fix on my filler neck. After a close inspection the filler neck appears to only be rotted out in the middle. At the top the neck is good until just after the overflow, then its rotted for a few inches, then gets good again were it goes to the tank.
My idea is to cut out the rotted section and hose clamp a pice of suitable rubber hose in place.
What diameter hose would I need? Is there a special type of hose that I should use, (ie: suited for fuel)? Would this work as a temp. fix?
Thanks in advance.

You could patch the filler neck with a section of hose and a pair of hose clamps. You would want the hose to be rated for gasoline, but it would not need to be rated for high pressure.
Sorry, I don't know what the size of the filler neck is. Why don't you take your calipers and measure it?

Standard heater core hose fits, but don't use that type of hose on the actual repair!!
Get fuel hose online or head to just about any truck shop and you should be able to find fuel hose in that size. I did that same repair last year.

Hmm. Truck shop, never thought of that, but there are 4wd shops evewhere around here so shouldn't have a problem finding one. The heater core hose is 3/4" right? So just look for a 3/4" hose rated for fuel.
Denis, measuring would be the best way but I couldn't find my calipers and I really don't want to even touch it until I have a replacement hose....yes its that fragile in spots.
