OD Button Not Working. Any solutions?
#2
Hmm I'm having a Similair issue except my light doesn't come on at all... I know the overdrive isn't working because I don't feel "power difference" if you will when u press the button... Would like to see what people say

Mine recently started happening this year. It was odd at times I would have my hand on the shifter and the light would come back on dim looking so I used that to determine whether I had it on or not when pressing the button. Now nothing, no light emits on dash when I hit OD off or on.

search, i know there's a thread or a write-up on this. buy a scanner or go to auto-zone. more than likely if your o/d's not engaging there's a problem with your trans or the ecu. if you don't feel it that's not good, trust me, i've been through that scenario a few times.

Sounds like your overdrive switch or overdrive solenoid in the transmission is the problem. Have this diagnosed by a competent mechanic. i would'nt think it would be too expensive to fix.

Our transmissions are 4 speeds with a locking TC. OD is nothing more then 4th gear when the TC locks up. Pressing the button on the shift lever makes it a 3 speed with no lock up.
If the transmission is working correctly, then after a complete warm up, at highway speeds, your should be cruising at 60 mps with about 2.2K rpm's on the tach.
If the trans is shifting and operating correctly under normal conditions, then I'd suspect the wiring to the OD/OFF button is the cause of the problem. Being it's constantly being moved at you shift from PRND, I'd suspect the issue might be in the center console.

Thanks a lot guys. I will be sure to bring the car to my mechanic about this issue. Good thing is he specializes in Transmission work. I'll look into the center console myself to see if any wiring is loose.
