Caliper will not bleed
Caliper will not bleed
Hi, I've just finished changing the front passenger calipers/ pads, but when we go to bleed, nothing comes out. The driver side was perfectly fine. We then decided to do all four, but that one front passenger we changed calipers on just refuses to bleed. Btw, I changed the caliper because they were locking and we suspected that caused my rotors to crack. In any case, we are a bit stumped and would love some feedback. This is on a 98 with ABS. I should also mention that my ABS lights have been on for quite some time now. I believed they have been on for close to a year ever since I changed the calipers for the rear. Any thoughts?
I think we've figured it through some trial and error. We checked each of the connections starting from the ABS sensor. The only place where oil refused to come out of when pumping the brakes were the hydraulic hose. So from what I gather, that was where the problem was. Im a little unclear what would cause it to clogged, but I've already placed an order for a new one. We figured that this was also what caused my rotors to crack. It would lock closed and the heat just caused them to crack at some point.
I would suggest flushing the entire brake system with fresh dot 3 fluid and replacing the other hose as well. It could be a couple of issues contaminated fluids, incompatible brake fluids or even a hose that is coming apart on the inside.
Brake hoses can rot from the inside out. The rubber starts to peel, yet is partially attached. It can make a one-way valve. The little rubber flap can work two ways. It can block fluid from reaching the brake cylinder, or can be trapped in the brake cylinder under pressure. The cure is a new rubber brake hose for the flexible portions of the system.
