Floorboard rust

Hey guys been aware for a while my floor boards at the passenger and driver front end have been rusted really badly, im taking this job upon myself, cutting out the rust and laying down and heavy sheet metal with some tech screws, should be the easy part. My question is whats the best way i can get the carpet out of the way easily if possible, the rust is far enough up where i can keep the seats in the car unless the carpet removal requires i take them out, thanks for any help. If any one else has taken this problem into there own hands any tips ?

Removing the carpet would be best which requires removing the seats and center console which should only take about an hr and in doing so you can take a good look at anything else on your floor pan that may need to be addressed. It will also give you a good opportunity to take some powdered tide and warm water with a little oxy clean and give the carpet a good cleaning with a scrub brush then rinse with hose or pressure washer and just hang to dry while you work on your floor pan. If you know how to mig weld or have access to one or someone that can weld the metal in for you would be best then treat it with some por 15 or a good apoxy primer. For my floor pan even though it's not rotted but I have some small spots to address so I took my carpet out for the winter on my winter beater (Suzuki) I was thinking I might just spray it over with a can or 2 of truck bed liner after ive treated the metal and before putting the carpet back in place. Just a suggestion you may like to use aswell . Hope this helps and Goodluck!

Have a little patients and take some pride to do a proper job if you plan on keeping the car long term Then take it to krown or whoever you decide to use to rust coat it on an annual basis. Where i am it's about $120 which works out to be about $10 bucks a month and well worth it to keep the rusties away as much as possible and a coin wash regularily in the winter especially in and around the wheel wells to wash the salt off especially on mild days as this is when it oxidizes causing rust and corrosion.

My body guy did a killer job on the radiator support with brand new oem nissan parts, and plan to use his lift and tools to do my floors, good family friend. The wheel well rust isnt to bad but i see the bubbles forming which is no good sign.

Well then im sure your body man will have a mig welder. Good opportunity to learn a few tricks and get some advice if your stuck. Im sure after all your work is done that he would probably suggest you get the car rust coated aswell.

Here where i am in Canada the average price is $120 but you only need to do it once a year. Seeing as we get some brutal winters it's a must if the car is a keeper. I try to get it done in the fall but while the temperatures are still mild so the oil can seep into all the crevices and places it needs to get to. I use Krown. Im not peticular on the dripless type of rust coat because i don't believe it gets into all the nooks and crevices but each to their own.
