solid oil pressure light came on

So I was bored and decided to do the hacked airbox mod . After a couple startups I noticed the oil pressure light come on sold I checked the oil and all the fluids which seem fine . Not sure what it could be and I dont have access to a scanner atm.

I don't think that your air box is related to your oil. Check codes if there are any. Check also the sensor that triggers the oil lights and its wiring.

That's good because a low idle will causes that light to come. Let me check my Haynes manual as it list the causes for the oil light for 95-99 maximas.

Here it is, possible causes are
1. Low oil level
2. Idle rpm below specification
3. Short in wiring circuit
4. Faulty oil pressure sender
5. Worn engine bearings and/or oil pump

5 and 1 will ruin an engine, don't drive it until you figure it out.

You wont need a scanner because your check engine light is not on. Since your oil level is good and the light stays on at 700 rpm, my guess would goto the oil pressure send unit or the wiring/harness for that unit.

Is the area around the oil pressure send unit covered in oil, and does the oil light stay one even when you rev the engine to 1500 or 2000 rpms?

+1. If the light goes out when you rev it, you can rule out the sensor and wiring. If it does go out and you are showing good oil level on the stick, drop the lower oil pan and check the pickup after checking the pan for dents.

[QUOTE=Swamy21;8947524]I had a oil change about 3000 k ago and when I rev the engine it still stays on. The engine sounds the same as before.[/QUOTE

I recently replaced my oil sender switch 3 months ago, the unit was leaking. My car has 255K now. The light would come on right at 3K after an oil change. Most noticable at idle or low speeds nearing a stop it would almost stay lit. I noticed the engine sounded like it was loud, or a lack of oil when it was full. I immediately changed the oil and filter when it did this around 240K. The light went off. I noticed this motor does not like certain types of oil. It will tell you when u need to change it if you go too far between oil changes. But the switch is under $10. I changed it and it doesnt leak anymore nor does the light come on and stay on.

Just courious as to what are you checking the pickup for?? build up, debris? dirt? can it be cleaned? or replaced? just asking

You would be checking for debris, sludge, contact with the pan, etc. It can be cleaned or replaced depending on the damage. Most likely removed and cleaned though. Since the light does not go out at all and the level is good we could be looking at the pressure switch or wiring.

My engine definitely wasnt loud. I went underneath my car and found a wire near the oil pan loose. it had some dirt/debris on it so I wiped it up and and put electrical tape on it. I started the car and the oil pressure light was gone . The car sounds normal and runs normal

Did you make holes in the air box and if you did where did you make them, the top box or the bottom box.
