Transmission Wont take Fluid!!! help

I am attempting to change the tranny fluid in my brother's manual 1996 i30.

One day he had a dead battery and attempted to roll start his car in reverse down a hill. He gave it a push, and while rolling back he slammed in the car in reverse and the car started but made a terrible noise when he put it in gear, and he looked underneath his car and all the tranny fluid was leaking out. (Idk what this means, but I wanted to see if it would hold more fluid if i put it in) the car made a weird whining noise as he drove home but the noise stopped when we drove it up and down the street next week. We didnt drive it much because i knew it had barely any fluid left.

So i bought like 9 quarts of some redline GL4 MT90 75-90 for his car. and my 6 speed maxima. I know the 96 takes 4.5 quarts and the 2002 takes 2.5.

I released the size 12 drain plug by that metal bracket and barely any fluid came out (not surprised) then i put the bolt back on. The bolt or hole seemed kinda stripped because it would tighten down and get somewhat tight, then get lose again. the bolt had some gunk around it (maybe adhesive). But the tigtening of the bolt isnt my biggest problem..

I get off the fill bolt and get my funnel placed securley in the hole. I even push the funnel deep in the hole so it doesnt fall out and doesnt leak.. but to my amasment, after adding about half of the first quart, i look down to check on it, and fluid is just refusing to go into the hole and coming out. Like its already full. Remember i even made sure the funnel was in VERY good.

Can someone tell me why the fluid is being rejected? and maybe tell me what he messed up by roll starting his car in reverse. Any reply would be greatly appreciated.
I tried putting a picture of what i am looking at. The leak was way worse at first. i took the picture after i wiped everything off, and it continued to come out.

More pics

I attached more pictures of what i saw when i took off the funnel.. all the fluid i put in immediately rushed out. Why is it doing this? the car is almost perfectly level and not on a hill or anything.

Umm, from what I gather here..the sound isn't normal unless it only makes it in reverse.
There is always a whine in reverse with a manual transmission.
And it looks like the "drain plug" you are using is actually the fill hole.
When it leaks out of that on level ground it's full.

Ah I figured it out. It turns out the car didnt leak out ALL the fluid when it popped and grinded into reverse. The reason why all the fluid didnt come out when i removed the drain plug is because i still had the fill bolt on; which means there wasnt good air flow for the fluid to come out properly. Also, there was stop-leak all inside the drain hole, which stopped the fluid from coming out.

thanks for the reply though! it got me thinking. I hope this helps others who change their manual tranny fluid. Make sure the fill bolt is out and make sure all the fluid comes out before you start adding more!

It's a good practice to always remove the fill hole bolt first before you attempt to remove the drain hole bolt.. That approach keeps you from getting into trouble in the event you drain the transmission and later discover you cannot remove the fill bolt.
