What are my chances of beating a 2000 GXE 5 speed with my 97 Auto GXE with mods
My girlfriends brother just got a 2000 GXE 5-Speed and wants to race me, his car is completely stock. I have a 97 Auto GXE with Intake, Y-Pipe, Cat-Back Exhaust. What are my chances of actually beating him? Will he smoke me? Let me know, Ive never ridden in the 2000 before, I test drove the 02 6 speed and lets just say im staying away from that one until I buy one,lol. So what are my chances?

but, even with those mods, i'd say he should take you still.. only way to find out is to go at it, but i think he will take u

Anyway I was just curious, i figured he would probably beat me. Anyone else have any input? I would race him but it just snowed about 4-6 inches last night.

You may have a chance.. I test drove the 2K 5speed when they first came out... didn't seem that much faster than my car when it was stock. You should have pretty good top end with your mods. Be safe.

entirely possible, but he has an auto What do 5th gen do stock w/ 5spd? like 14.7+? Although 4th gen 5spd is capable of the same, he has an auto, even with those mods it probably won't be enough..

I think it might be the reverse. Since its a Gen5 verses a Gen4, and the Gen5 is a 5speed, because its a manual, the Gen5 has 2 advantages;
1) The variable intake of the Gen 5 gives it a wider power band. On the highway, that's a big plus. Gen 5 advantage 1
2) with 5 speeds, 3 of which can be used on the highway, the gear ratios are shorter so it can work its' power band better. It can use gear 3 and 4 for acceleration on the highway, 5th gear for top speed. Gen 5 advantage 2
The Gen 4 auto with mods has the mods overcoming;
1) Gen 4 lack of variable intake, dis-advantage on the highway
2) Lack of gears to use on highway, only 3 and 4, but basically only 3rd gear, really. 4th gear is just to top out.

On the highway, you should edge out.
It'll be a close run no matter what.

Well ... the 4th gen does have a the full exhaust done. That helps out.
And the 5th gen (we're assuming) is a new driver and therefore wouldn't know how to use the car to it's full potential.
And like Deezo said, a 4th gen has beaten a 5th gen on the highway.
