Help please - cranks but hard start
Help please - cranks but hard start
okay so I need help on determining what a possible problem could be. when I try to start my car whenever, it doesn't crank over until I push on the gas pedal repeatedly. it just started to act up out of no where and I took it to my mechanic and he's really stumped on what the problem could be. he thought it could be the oxygen sensors but I replaced two, both bank 1 and bank 2. I also replaced the knock sensor, and MAF, and they're still not the issue. I'm curious to see if anyone knows what the possible problem could be. I also ran a computer on it to see if any sensors are bad and everything comes up clean which really confuses me. anyone's input will be greatly appreciated!
thanks guys!!

have you ever replaced the ignition lock/cylinder? I replaced mine and didn't tighten the electrical connections screws tight enough. got loose and would take forever. dont know about pushing the gas pedal.
Is the problem most likely to happen when the car has been sitting overnight or when you restart it after shutting it off for a few minutes?
Did the mechanic run a fuel pressure test?
The reason I'm asking these questions is a bad fuel pressure regulator (FPR) can cause a "hard-to-start" problem.

I find it funny that a "mechanic" replaced O2 and knock with a complaint of hard starts. They both have absolutely nothing to do with a start up. Find another mechanic in the future, he just ripped you off.
Check the resistance of the engine coolant temp sensor, make sure it's with spec (temp vs resistance). Also verify both crank and the cam sensor signals as well as fuel pressure.

Since u need to press the gas pedal to start the car I would clean the throttle body if you have never cleaned it. That thing will get really dirty and cause the throttle plate restrict air to going to the engine and will cause the plate to get stuck because of all the gunk that surrounds it. Which is one reason why you have to push the gas pedal.
