96 maxima bcm correct?

I have a 96 maxima that has a bcm with the serial# on it of 28491040u20. When I look it up on net it says its for a infiniti. I read somewhere that you have to have to have right number and most for 96 maximas have a 00 after the "u". Is mine correct. I'm having problems with it having a parasitic drain when just sitting there. HELP!

Check for a part number typo. PN 2849140U20 is listed on Nissan Part sites.

Its an expensive little item.

How long is it taking for your battery to be fully drained?

Do you have an aftermarket alarm, remote start, or radio installed?

If you have access to a meter that can test at least 10 amps, or a low current inductive clamp if you know someone who has one, and measure the current at the battery with the car off, and start pulling fuses one at a time (and replacing them if nothing changed) until the current flow drops, then look at what all runs on that circuit and go from there.

Consult the owners' manual or service manual to find what circuits are on that fuse.

96 maxima bcm incorrect?

Was not a typo... Should have been 20. Also, tried inline meter pull fuses check with only dif at bcm. Doesn't mean I did it right but I went to electronics course way back in 90 or so and you don't use it you forget it. Full number as follows: 2849140u20

If no other circuits show a draw, I would be tempted to run out to SW OKC and pick up a BCM from a salvage yard. Usually you can return a part that "doesn't work" for a credit. Some places give a full refund. As you know the BCM is in a not so easy to reach location.

I have a spare one in the garage, but it is from a 99 GLE -- wrong part number.

I had a strange parasitic draw on my 99 I30 a while back. One of the door switch bumpers disintegrated that left the interior light on. I pulled the interior light fuse thinking that would keep the battery from draining -- it didn't. Apparently because the door switch registered in the open position, it mush have keep some circuitry (possibly BCM) awake that would drain the battery in in a few day. As soon as I fixed the door switch and re-installed the interior light fuse, the parasitic drain went away.

Other items to check:

1) Trunk switch
2) Hood switch
3) Delay relay for lights

It looks like 95-96 models use Part Number (28491-40U20)

Yup, these switches will keep the the BCM from going to sleep.
