Soo it started snowing this morning switched on my wipers ran for a good 2 mins and suddenly it just stopped in the middle of the windshield. When i switch the wipers on i hear a motor sound though.

 

Sounds like the transmission arm slipped off, it can be a *****

Agreed. This is the first thing to check...

 

If the motor's turning.....Are the crank levers reciprocating? If they are loosen the wiper arm nuts and see if they're shafts are stripped which I doubt....Check your nuts Man!!!!

The shafts are tapered and splined. The aluminum arms are tapered but smooth. With too much resistance the connection becomes a fusible link. Remove the arms and clean the aluminum shavings out, then reinstall.

 

Sooo from what i can see the linkage arm is off , and i cant get it in place , i think the bushings are shot if thats what they are called

 

There are bushings. Sounds like you may need to see if you can get the linkages from a yard and maybe just take the whole assembly being the opposite linkage bushing may not be too far behind and take the wiper motor as a back up while your there if you decide to go with a used assembly from a scrapyard.

 

Wife used to have a 98 Honda Passport (an Isuzu really) that had a similar problem, the linkage arm mechanism had plastic ball and sockets on it, the plastic wore out and the arm kept popping off.. I seem to remember being able to get replacement linkage, I think I had to use a dealer though...

 

I work late so im not even able to go to the wreckers , but im gonna try and ducktape it for the time being

 

Red Green it lol Might get you by but i'd still try and get by a yard before or after work. Possibly a saturday if your local yard is open. Like slfalco stated it's usually that plastic bushing that wears.

 

It be about a week till i can go , and it snows here so itll have to do for now

They are a PITA to remove. For $42.00 I'd rather buy new than d!ck around in the wrecking yard for another 17 year old part. Just saying

you should do what I did when that happen to me, for weeks I drove threw rain, and snow without working wipers, I'm surprised, I didn't hit something, at first I tired to tie it down, but the way it moves when it's working it's kinda hard to tie it down without stopping it from moving all together, what I did after thinking about it is remove the yellow plastic cap that your suppose to put over the round balljoint, once you do that just put the arm down over the balljoint and it should work because there's an opening where the yellow cap use to be, once you do that just put back the black covering, and test out your wipers, your gonna have to adjust them, and they won't have full range, but it's not gonna be that noticeable, and your gonna hear the metal on metal sound, but you won't notice that after a day, plus no more slipping.

 

They're easy to remove....you just need to angle the rod to the side and pop it out!
