Broken rear strut !

I have a 97 max GLE bought a new set of struts with lowering springs planned on doing this soon because I knew one of my struts was going just so happens my driver side rear strut broke I think today of all days Christmas so now I'm waiting to get in touch with my mechanic so he can install my new struts and lowering springs. So my question is, is it safe to be driving my car with a broken strut like that I mean I have to go to work and stuff. And I'm not sure when I'm going be able to have them installed. So if anyone has any knowledge of this please comment on this thread it would be greatly appreciated

I had a broken strut on my '83 buick regal. It sounded like death, but it still drove. Then again, it sounded like death all the time.

see if its leaking oil or the car bounces excessively when you manually bounce that corner

hmm don't seem to have any of that.. mine only has 134k. just curious to know what it sounds or feels like so I already know.

whats the costs for lowering springs and struts for all 4? just looking for a moderate drop to make it a little lower to fill up the wheel gap but not damage anything else that is OEM around the suspension. I think they're called progress or somthin like that..

Thanks everyone, but unfortunately I had to drive to work yesterday but soak the back ways and never went over 50mph. I'm getting a ride to my other job tonight and tomorrow my mechanic is doing my struts and Lowering Springs.

I got Tokico Blues front/rears for around 4 bills but had to do alil searching and my boy had extra springs I like he said he got them for around a 100 bucks and new mounts for about 100. So about 600 and how much you get charged for install. My guys doing it for 250 and I got a quote from a shop around my way for about 5 something so it's a decent expense.

not bad for 600$ im guessing the drop is 1.5 inches or 2? , considering stock height is a little too high, lowering it makes it look sweet without harming the OEM parts of the car im guessing?

have you had any problems after installing the lowering springs and struts? I just get this weird cringe if I install good lowering springs and struts with atleast a 1.5-2 inch drop I'll destroy the car or somthing... (parts breaking out on me)

Your car will be fine. I've lowered all my Maximas, including my 4th gen, & didn't have any issues with things breaking because of it.

I've got H & R lowering springs on the Max and no suspension complaints.

Yeah it's probably going to be 2 inch drop I haven't installed them yet actually do it tomorrow can't wait , but yeah depending on how parts on your car are my boy had to change his control arms when he did his suspension . So I already replace them on mine. I think that might be the only issue we would have when Lowering it

As long as the strut isn't broke like at the knuckle mount bolts nor the strut mount a blown shock can't hurt too much....The last 98 Maxima I worked on had 4 blown struts with no more oil in them and the piston rod was wobbling in the strut bodies when I removed them. All the piston rods fell to the bottom of the strut cause there was nothing left inside oil nor gas! Just drive your car like it's injuried cause driving it fast and recklessly could cause you too loose control of it....

Lmfao!!! My maxima was exactly like that! I drove about a thousand miles before replacing all 4 and springs. That car bounced like crazy. Go easy on the highway, over bumps you get a little "floating". But that was 4, you only have one. It will also eat your tire so I would try to get after that. Not a real tough job, FWIW.
