I think it may need a new speed sensor??

I just bought the car and it had everything rebuilt except the transmission. When I test drove it it was perfectly fine. On the drive home every time I slowed down and made a turn it would stop shifting and it was like it was stuck in neutral.

I would have to turn the car off and reconnect the battery for it to start back up again, and then it would drive fine... Until the next turn. I'm thinking that has something to do with something else though.

But driving it in 2nd it seemed to work fine and then it would be okay to drive normally again for a little bit.

Any idea what might be causing this?

It's a 95 nissan maxima se. please help???

I'll start by saying that I don't know what is wrong with the transmission. But I can give you some troubleshooting tips.

Make sure that the transmission oil is full. Low oil level will do strange things.
Smell the oil. Does it have a burnt smell? Hope not, that's bad news.

Run the self diagnostic built into the transmission. It makes the O/D Off light blink out a code. See page 46 in the service manual. The procedure starts at the bottom of the page - "SELF DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE (Without CONSULT or GST)
