Radiator cap help

So my old cap was leaking just a bit.
So I replaced it with what I thought(was told) a oem one. That one leaks more then the old one. Please help.

How exactly can we help?

To start, do you have an OEM radiator, or aftermarket knockoff?

Take back the new radiator cap and get the proper one.

Im asuming it's the original rad. I can't tell you the history of the car. Nor can I take the cap back. I can maybe send it back.
You can first start by giving me the oem cap part number to compare to the one I have. Maybe a picture also.

Then maybe recommend a radiator just incase I have to change it.

ill start with that.

Off topic but regarding cooling. Is the transmission cooler just a few twist of metal tubing.
I may add one.

If you're auto, you already have a tranny cooler built into the radiator. You can add a better one too, a popular choice is a hayden 401 or 402; sold at Pepboys etc.

A transmission cooler could be just a few loops of tubing, but it could be more complex in that there are cooling fins like the radiator uses added to the tubing. It depends on how much cooling you want to have.

Are you sure it's the cap that's leaking? A common failure point on the radiator itself is the cap area. Look for a very small crack on the fill point of the radiator, just under the cap.

I'll check again but I see it trickleing from under the cap.

I may just replace the radiator with a all aluminum one. But where to purchase from?

I'm betting you find a small crack. The cap has a large rubber seal that sits on top of the rad. neck. Not much to go wrong there, really.

Aluminum radiator, why? The OE or aftermarket replacements provide adequate cooling, unless you want looks, put your hard earned $$$ elsewhere.

I've used NAPA radiators in the past without issue.

Jonblz, you've been a member for a long time now. What's with the spam? I see you spammed that same BS in three other spots on the ORG. Do that again and you're gone for good

I had a leak from around the cap about 3 months ago. It turned there was a very small crack at the neck of the radiator. So it was close to the cap, but just at the bottom of the neck. Dry all the coolant and warm up the car and see if it comes from top (the cap) or lower. I used JB weld to fix it. Second radiator fixed with it. Works like a champ now.

Koyo and Mishimoto are both good. njmaxseltd is right though, just grab a stock one as aluminum rads are at least double the price of OEM or OEM-like replacements.

I installed a $45 shipped Ebay radiator (his choice) in a friend's Maxima two weeks ago. So far, so good.
