Help please! 95 maxima->doesn't want to rev, stalls, loss of power

New here I'm a 23 yr old girl from Australia so please keep your answers understandable haha.

My 95 maxima is having all sorts of trouble first off it was stalling and running rough so I took it to a local mechanic who charged me $50 and said nothing was wrong.

I told my dad who changed my MAF 6 months ago with a cheap ebay one I thought it was that again...he told me I was wrong and wouldn't even consider it as he just changed it.

Took it to another mechanic he said he cleaned throttle body and something else I cant remember so that cost a further $130 and he told me a knock sensor code came up.

The morning I took it to him I noticed a slight crack in the radiator its not overheating but my symptoms seem to be getting worse...car sometimes doesnt want to rev, stalls on stop or long idle period, loses power BIG TIME when turning into streets.

I'm about to buy a new radiator and already have a new knock sensor....but I'm highly doubting a new knock sensor is my problem???

Thanks
Monique.

Um I just changed the spark plug maybe a month ago and my dad did the alternator not long ago as well....other than that I haven't checked anything else and don't really know how hence why I've taken it to the mechanic

Do you have any check engine lights?

Only use oem maf's. Our cars do not like aftermarket maf's. Try and go to a junkyard and see if they have a maxima in it you can pull it form. If not, im sure some generous member here has a spare they can sell you.

And for the spark plugs. Make sure they're NGK's. Factory service manual calls for platinum's, but alot of people here on the forum (myself included) use coppers for best performance. You don't NEED ngk's but it's a good way to make sure that spark plugs aren;t your problem and eliminate that variable.

Yeah I used ngk coppers when I replaced them barely a month ago...i read up what to use on here before hand thank you though.

There's been no check lights come on.

I'm thinking about ordering a MAF from a wrecking yard tomorrow now thanks for the input

Did you check the classified section? It would be great if you could get a used "tested OEM" MAF from a member. Sometimes when I visit salvage yards I will see a non-OEM MAF on a decent looking Maxima. On one occasion I bought a used non-OEM and quickly found it to be bad. Then I wondered if that bad MAF was one of the reasons the owner gave up and sent the car to the salvage yard. If you order a used MAF be sure to indicate that it must be a tested OEM type.

This video provides information on how to test a MAF.

No I haven't checked the classifieds and I was worried about that also!
I will check..is this forum majority American? Do people post parts to Australia? Sorry if I sound a little silly asking these questions.

Mostly U.S. and Canada as far as I know. Personally I purchase Nissan diagnostic tools (e.g. ECUTalk cable) from AU.

another 95 max, yay!!! i have 268,000 on my 95 and have done everything to her i can think of. coil packs can be an issue as well as the maf. have you ever tried seafoam to clean throttle body?? the liquid seafoam works great, a little through your brake booster vacuum line, some in the gas tank. knock sensor retards timing, therefore helps with gas mileage and a smoother running engine. get a scanner tool girl, 25-35.00 bux off of amazon and you can scan your own check engine light and we'll tell you what the codes are, most i've seen are 02 sensor codes, but there are quite a few more than that. put some premium gas in maxy too, that'll help her run a bit smoother as well.

but it does feel great to have a clean badass old car, when people in their new cars are like "FUUUC**!"

but yeah often alot of times in the yard, you may see a non oem maf, hence why owners think the engine is done, when in reality its just the wrong MAF they're using.. no air, no engine.. just like our bodies..We dont breathe.. we die.

Good day mate LOL

First, make sure your radiator is full. I've seen Maximas run funny and go into limp mode when the coolant is very low. I mention this because you state you have a crack in your radiator.

Next, buy a good used OEM MAF from someone here in the classifieds or get one from your local boneyard.

It's not the knock sensor, so don't worry about that.

An OEM MAF may just be all you need, knock sensor code would go away once that's done.

Wish you luck, and hoping that's your only problem!
