Need help deciding what order to mod!

Hello,

I'm new here but spent the last few weeks reading the stickies. Modded out my suspension really well so my car handles nicely.. Now I want to work on speed! Planning to get CAI, ypipe, and headers. Does it matter what order I buy and place these items? What should I get after these 3? Also, how can I make my exhaust louder (not speed related)? Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks!!

The stock intake flows as much as a CAI, is already colder, and has higher velocity for low end torque. Dyno tests have proven that there is no better intake for NA Maxima's. Headers will only be marginally better.

If I were interested in going faster I would do a ypipe and 3.5 cams.

A true CAI, like a Place Racing style CAI, will help only a smidge. It will sound pretty cool though. Go for the ypipe first. If you have the patience, wait for a set of Cattman headers to come up for sale, because they will come with an equal length ypipe. If not, just grab a standard unequal ypipe and call it good.

Then go for 00VI swap.

Thanks Guys!

Y pipe it is, glad I wont be wasting money on the other stuff. Wiz, you said the cattman headers will already come with a ypipe that custom fits, so that I will not have to buy both headers and ypipe separately?

That's correct. It comes as a complete system and the parts must be used together.

Thanks for the info. I started researching them and think I will just save up for the cattman headers. Cant wait to add that power

Defiantly 00VI. Y pipe didn't do half what the 00VI did. The best part is that it makes power through the whole power band. I could tell a difference from the moment I let the clutch out. I did the y pipe first, so maybe if I did 00VI first then Y, I would be saying that Y is the best mod. Y pipe is definably easier. Even with rusted bolts, there is nothing to be moved out of the way to get at it.

Go all out, do headers Y and 00VI. You will have to pull the UIM to access the back header anyway.

Thanks for the advice! I am still a little new to working with cars (my suspension setup took me a while ) so i definitely wanted to start with something easy. I do plan to go all out with the headers and y tho. As for the 00VI, I will probably have to study and research alot more before I can do that. How difficult was that to do?

^^ 00VI wasn't too hard. I did a couple manifold swaps on other cars, so I was used to the throttle body and wiring that goes with it. Its just a lot of steps. I re-used the 4th gen LIM, but I had an extra one, so I had all the time I needed to drill and tap the holes. I got a EGR block off plate from the junkyard and filled the 5th gen IACV with RTV sealant instead of making a block off plate. I stumbled upon a really good idea buried here in the threads to use a plumbing screw in plug to use as a plate so I could use the 4th gen IACV. Actual swap time took only a couple hours. I liked it, there were lots of small little projects I could work on when I had time, and I didn't need the car there to do them.

All of the info you need and then some is floating around the .org If you run into any problems, feel free to pm me.

What did you pull that egr block off plate off of? I plan on doing the swap soon. Gonna start gathering parts.
No thread jacking here. Just asking a Q :-)

Thanks, Ill mentally prepare myself for this by reading all of the older threads and info on the site. I got a lot of studying to do seeing as I did not understand alot of what you just wrote . Hopefully it wont be too bad like you said. Ill pm you with some questions in the future when I start with the swap. Thanks for the help.

Ok, so I know this may be off topic but I looked everywhere on here and can't find anything I had a question. On auto source it says something about I can use the vq40de throttle body and maf sensor on my 2001 maxima. But I was wondering what else I might need from the frontier like the wiring harness or anything?

Extend the rev limit to 7200rpm, full exhaust, vq30De-k intake manifold setup swap. Anything after that will just make it better. Lightweight flywheel, nitrous, camshafts, etc.
