That is the fluid reservoir for the brake master cylinder.

What line is broken? Any line to the master cylinder would allow you brake fluid to leak out.

Could you post a real photograph of this with the broken line?

Thats a brake line= You will not have brakes.

Holly hell. yeah its broken but it might be clamped off because my brakes still work... but that might be a problem

what is that black pump? the fuel pump?

I see a charcoal canister and a transmission breather. Don't see any broken lines though.

Based simply on the shape and configuration of that unconnected hose, to me, it looks like the transmission breather that might have gotten displaced from it's original mount/clamp/clip.

OP ... do a search for "transmission breather" and/or "breather". I think you'll find that this is likely what it is.

+1 Auto-Trans breather hose. Trace the other end it looks like it terminates at your transaxle.

If your car is a five speed, thats looks like your clutch res. If its auto, that is for your tranny.

That is an Altima, not a Maxima.
