My second attempt at body work

This was my second attempt ever in my life at body work.
I purchased the car 2 yrs ago with the damage.
This is just my beater so I am happy with the end result.
I am a avid DIY type of guy.

Very very nice! I want to do some work myself, but I'm not sure where to start with this. I had all the wheel well rust repaired about 8 months ago, and it's expanding in other spots - fortunately not too noticeable... yet.

How long did it take, and what tools did you use? I'm impressed.

Very interested in the procedure/tools used to do this job. My 4th gen has rust forming on the inner fender lip because the previous owner was lazy and rolled the fenders with a baseball bat instead of the proper equipment. Car is ridiculously clean by NYer standards and i want to keep it that way.

Very impressed by the results you got, looks professional!

lots of sand paper, metal files, body filler, steel weld, expanding foam and lots of elbow grease.
i grind the rust down and treated it. I filled the the hole with expanding foam, fiberglass and steel weld(if you know what that is)

Paint was mixed at a paint shop. And put in a spray can. Its a single stage paint.
This is just a DD like i said. Can looks very clean compared to when i first got it from a police impound auction.
So for $600 if the car last another 4yrs i am happy.
As for lowering the car, 1 i live in a city who's streets has it share of pot holes.
2 this is just my DD, 3 not every one likes or wants to lower there car to empress the young generation.

And what about the paint, did you have a spray can mixed to the factory paint code? Clear coat over top?

Nice job! When I got a Deep Evergreen (DPO) can mixed at Napa I wasn't as lucky with the paint matching. It didn't blend well.

Since then I've done body work and painting with a Devilbiss 60 gallon air compressor and their HVLP paint guns. I fixed the heavily rusted rear sections of both quarter lips. I also replaced the rusted front fenders and painted the entire car black.

This past winter the front section of my right quarter lip has developed rust. After I sand then grind away that rusted section I'll weld on teethed sheet metal then smooth it out with some body filler. I'll then spray on some black urethane basecoat paint followed by some clearcoat paint.

+1 I've found that doing base/clear and using the hvlp comes out a little better than Napa's single stage but it looks to be from what I can see in the pics. Maximaham did a great job though I don't think I would have used any expansion foam but if your just fixing it up to buy some time it'll do the trick. New metal is always the best way to go. Good job Maximaham

As quoted in his earlier post he had a body shop put a one step paint in a spray can. Napa is one of many shops that can make spray cans using your color code.

Excellent body work! Better that I could have ever done! Are you planning to re-install the rear mud flaps?
