Ebay Y pipe?

I know this has been asked before but I can't find anything recent.

I have a few questions-

1. I've heard they are one of the best and easiest things to do to our cars, true?

2.With these ebay y pipes, I've read that they don't quite match up to the stock headers. What would I have to do to make them work?

3. Would you guys suggest I get a new cat or a test pipe? (something needs to be done as my stock cat is so rusty that I had to get the bolts torched to get them off)

4. Should I even bother with the headers?

Thanks!

warpspeed y-pipe, walker cat, no to headers. y pipe is all you need, headers are a waste of time imo

^^ +1

Here's a slide show from when I installed the y-pipe on the 99 model SE 5MT below. I primed and painted the y-pipe with VHT Ceramic Header paint before installation.

You don't need headers for a warp y pipe, but headers are well worth it for the performance enthusiast.
Long tube shows great gains over stock, but that takes a specific y pipe.
Not worth it if you aren't about that life, plus they are proving harder to find..and it's not a fun install.

as previously stated, obx and the like never lined up right. never heard of any headers other than stillen or cattman that were proven power gains.

OBX v2 have really improved other than the thickness, but they show gains for sure. Longtube FTW.

Stillen made headers?
That must have ended way before Cattman did.

i think that it was the late 90's for stillen headers. like 1 or 2 years and that was it. searched and couldn't find them, i was positive they did.

So, I should go with the Warpspeed? Kinda spendy though, like 275$ off their website

What cat should I get? And does that Y-pipe come with the little pipe inbetween the cat and the y pipe that the O2 goes into? if not, where might I find one of these?

go with warpspeed y, have had 2 of them and they last for years. i believe your talking about the flex section, that's attached to the back end of the y-pipe and unless you have a 95 max you should'nt need a hole for that 02 sensor. and the cat is where that bung hole is located.

what year is your maxima? y pipe on the 4th gen and below is good because they also remove the cats. you will want headers if you have a 5.5 gen or newer because again you will remove the cats and the collector is designed much better than stock.

I have a 97' SE.

My exhaust is as follows Headers>Y pipe>Little pipe with o2 spot>Cat>And so forth. The o2 pipe is either after the cat or before it, can't remember.

Either way I have that extra stupid pipe that the o2 goes into.

_EDIT_ Found a picture of the little pipe I was talking about.

i'm pretty sure that pipe is part of your y-pipe assembly, in my 95 the 02 sensor is in the cat. i would stick with a name brand on the cat unless you like putting a new one on every year. i went through 3 aftermarket cheapie's before i bought a walker at advanced auto for $180.00. do it right and get the warpspeed and the walker cat, more money, but worth it.

I bought a set of Manzo headers/y off ebay. Didn't intend on using the headers so I had the y-pipe fabbed up to be equal length. Upon initial mock up, it didn't bolt up to the stock manifolds so it would have need quite a bit of work anyway.

I'll be installing it soon.

That s-pipe sits behind the cat and connects to the b-pipe. No need to replace that unless it's rusted to the cat. In that case, I believe they can be found on ebay along with a new cat. Bosal or Walkers are good aftermarket cats.

Update?

OP, did you ever happen to buy a y-pipe or a cat. converter?

It was mentioned here that the Walker and Bosal cats are of good quality.

What are thoughts about the Magnaflow hi-flow cat? (vs. the Walker cat for example) which is available from warpspeedperformance.com. (to be used with the warpspeed y-pipe)

I have the high flow cat from Warpspeed.
Helps cut down on some rasp IMO and bolts right up. Good stuff.
