ripped a flex pipe a bit

Guys i was thinking to wrap a bit of exhaust tape around that hole, it's right at the beginning section of the flex section. went upstate and caught a high rock. Buying new or used and installing is also an option , but i would like to avoid it.

thought about that exhaust tape. would it work ? thanks for any experience shared!~

Its very noisy so figured maybe it will deaden the noise a bit. Provided it holds...

The tape will probably work for a while, but it will eventually come loose and fall off because of the pipe flexing. How long the tape will hold is anyone's guess.

I just had this develop on mine - taking to a shop that does custom exhausts to see if they can replace the flex section - on Warpspeed Y (everything behind that is stainless). Did you think about hitting an exhaust shop to replace just that section?

i did just that but that shop quoted $250. keep in mind it might rust out 3years or less. so i recommend spraying some heat resistant exhaust spray on those welds. let me know what you get quoted, maybe I'll go to queens where i did some work before.

Just had mine done today at American Muffler in Westbury, NY for $150 plus tax. They cut it out and Mig weld in a new one.

Factory replacement for an original at the dealer is STUPID money.

I hope this helps!

Just got mine back - $213. $168 shop labor + $45 parts

I had heard that the Warpspeed Y flex sections didn't last + I bought mine used so I don't know how much abuse it endured before I got a hold of it. I can report that the braided covering on the flex pipe was all ripped up on mine which might have been the indicator of its demise.

They added a slight bend to the end of the y-pipe for better alignment and welded in a shorter flex section. They opted to weld the y-pipe to the cat to eliminate one of the flange junctions - didn't see an issue with this since my cat is only a couple of years old.

Yeah buying a used pipe is a better option. Thanks for the feedback

The flex section on my 7 year old SS WS Y-pipe cracked on me last winter. As mentioned earlier that flex section was not SS like the piping and flanges.

I purchased this SS flex pipe off ebay for $20 http://www.ebay.com/itm/171150642265...84.m1436.l2649

With the 2.5" x 8" pipe slid over the mounted y-pipe sections I arc welded a few sections to hold it on while dropping the y-pipe. After dropping the y-pipe I mig welded around the entire flex pipe on both ends. I then sprayed the entire SS y-pipe with exhaust primer & paint.

For members with the welding tools I highly recommend that SS flex pipe made by bearriverconverters.
