Adjusting Stock Infiniti Sway Bars

I haven't gotten under the car yet to check, but it's my understanding that all Infiniti I30s, and some other models, come stock with front and rear anti-sway bars.

Does anyone know about the quality of these bars? Are they comparable in bar diameter and strength to aftermarket kits?

And, are they adjustable in any way? Can I stiffen them up?

They are not adjustable. Your only option right now is to add an additional rear bar from $tillen or Addco.

I was just doin research on the front 4th gen Maxima bar. Looks like it's not even a solid bar, but hallow. Swapping that out for a solid bar or larger diam would stiffen it. But you risk increasing understeer dramatically I think.

What you got in mind?

Actually hollow is better. In physics and Bio, we learned that the air present in a closed hollow body exerts a great force to the outside. Take a long metal pole (the ones in parking stops and used in concrete all the time) for example, they are solid and bent easily. A hollow pole wouldn't bend. Your bones are another example or a hollow structure that is resistant to bending.

Regarding hollow is better. It is, sometimes. Sometimes not. Depends what material you are talking about. If you are talking about something maleable like metal, then its different than something unmaleable like bone. If you want to read up further on this, you will find terms like stress, strain, and the relation that combines these, Young's Modulus (stress/strain).

There are many other makes of ASB other than Stolen and Addco...but I get the point... Thanks for the info. Guess I'll have to go aftermarket.

Like for human bones, hollow is good for weight. For twisting bars (torsion bars, coil springs, sway bars) the most important factor in determining stiffness is the outside diameter. Nissan did this to save weight while retaining most of the sway bar's stiffness. ST makes a solid front sway for 3rd Gens which is the same diameter as the stock one. Even though it's solid rather than hollow, people who own them aren't understeering like crazy (even though they also have mildly upgraded rear sways too).
